Default ECU Reset

My CEL came on last night after a 'normal' journey (not too hectic ).

Everything felt fine with the car so I disconnected the battery for an hour and tried it again. Didn't use it yesterday because it was 'beater weather' but this morning it is a different car.

Its smooth, sounds better, pulls better and feels so much better. I'm not sure why, and I have never reset the ECU before but it was well worth it.

It is easier to just remove the fuse from the fuse box.

<dumb_question>
so what does re-setting the ECU actually do?

Cancels all the ECU's memory of fuelling trims / idle etc.

It might feel quicker for a bit until it adjusts to wahtever fuel you are using. Some do it regularly as a routine... No real pro's and con's IMO. The ECU relearns quite quickly.

You will need to let the car idle and colling fans come on and off twice for it to learn the idle again, or just ride it out.

This cold air is excellent

Why did you reset your ECU without finding out what the CEL was far? Seems to me like burrying your head in the sand!

Not with the current weather conditions - its cold / warm / wet and dry at the moment which will play havoc with any sensor.

The car felt fine... Its not been regularly used because of the bad weather, and the light came on during the 'cool down' period and not at full pelt.

1st thing is to reset it, and then get it looked into if it returns.

I've finally found a Honda mechanic who can service the car himself and he's due to see it in a couple of weeks anyway for its annual fettle.

If it needs attention, it'll get it then.

Think Kenny is right here. Always get the code...

You can get the odd hiccup here and there, but I know a lot of people say you should expect this with ambients etc. I never had any on any of my cars including the S and it shouldn't really happen.

The Honda ECU is no different to any other car at the edn of the day.

Ive got a reader if you ever need it.
