I've been browsing t'internet for things I don't have and have come back once again to the engine damper.

I've done searches in the past and never came up with anything conclusive as to what benefits this might have.

Does anyone actually have one? Has it changed your life for the better?

Does it make any noticeable difference whatsoever or is it just engine bay bling/extra weight?

 

Stops the gear stick wobbling so much.

 

I asked Dixon about this the other day and he said don't bother. He said it would be better to get uprated engine mounts.

 

I looked at this but decided new OEM engine and transmission mounts were the way forward - can get them delivered from the USA too. Same price for a new one from there as it is for a ropey unknown mileage 2nd hand one here.

 

I have one because I have a PLM manifold from the US which is fantastic & makes a noticeable difference but was also making contact with the steering column under load on right hand bends.

The engine damper cured the problem (and a big thanks to Ron - aka Ultra Nexus) for suggesting it & fitting it.

I looked in to uprated engine mounts but was advised that they may not solve the problem/issue that I had.

Apparently they also help throttle response but because I had a new manifold and a K&N CAI all fitted at the same time it was difficult to say what difference it would have made by itself.

 

In theory, well we know the theory it stops/minimises engine movement and thus transfer more power to the wheels rather than being loss (or moved elsewhere) - but its minimal IMO.

I noticed a very slightly more direct feel when i had mine fitted (when planting your foot down), but nothing to write home about.

 

The S2000 is essentially missing an engine mount. I think it was shopman who made one that was very nice.

In any case, i'd certainly fit an engine damper (3rd mount) because it does give you better throttle response and less drivetrain shunt.

Yes, fitting uprated engine mounts will also stop this, but you will get all the NVH associated. And even then, i'd still fit the damper because of it's location and it doesn't have to deal with any torque loading whereas the position of the standard engine mounts do

 

I would probably have one if you get a decent one that worked with the comptech sc.

 

im looking to fit J's Racing tower bar with a torque damper, was chatting to a guy at JAE with one fitted and he said the 2 together made a small but good improvement, plus the J's racing one has a really nice design incorporating both into one neat bracket

 

I feel like I want one of these but i'm not even sure why....although if all it does is stop the gear stick wobbling so much i'll be happy
