I've deleted my entries after thinking about what benefit this thread would bring.

Honda knows about all the failures that have happened under warranty and probably knows more than we do as they have supplied the replacements.

Engine failures after warranty will most likely be due to over rev, low oil or abuse at some point in their life, even if the current owner of the car hasn't been responsible for that abuse.

All this thread will do is create the impression that the F20C engine is a weak engine when reality it is not.

All manufacturers will have engine failures, Honda are not exempt from that. But a thread listing all engine failures will give the wrong impression when people come to this forum.

At the request of the OP i've tidied up the thread just to purely keep the engine failure info. Apologies if this upsets anyone, but feel free to start a seperate thread based on the findings on this one. I think we all know that failures have differing reasons, such as age, maintenance, abuse etc, but the point of this post is to collect data. The "diagnosis" description should capture the background.

To that end please just post failure data from here on in.

Bokkie, could you edit your details to include the info on the subsequent engines please (See Elijah's post for what I'm after).

I'm after doing some armchair diagnostics on the problem. The failure mode seems pretty consistent (8~9k miles) so I want to try plotting them out and see if I can work out what's going on.

Anyone else who's had one recently could they update too

Thanks

VFast1: Definately looks like a rod failure there.

Just a reminder, only engine facts on here or it will get untidy.

Year of Engine Manufacture: 2008
Mileage on engine when it failed: 18,000 Approx. (need to confirm)
Failed engine number: F20C21080886
Date of failure: Oct. 2014
Symptoms of the engine: Knocking vibration felt when the car was under load.
Diagnosis: (if available) TGM Sport in Fleet confirmed the engine was knocking and swarf in the sump. Failure was caused by oil starvation after the oil filter spun loose and engine was run with low oil pressure. Root cause was the oil filter was not torqued up to specification and only hand tight. Engine was shut off as soon as I realised, but this was too late. A week later the engine started knocking. The engine was rebuilt by TGM with all new OEM crank, rods, oversized pistons, oil jets, bearings, oil pump and clutch kit.
