Thumbs down Engine Management Light

My engine light came on today for the first time in my 5 years plus of owning the car and after a search on here think it might be to do with the fuel?

It has always had Optimax without fail but the station was shut and it was near empty so filled up at Tesco with their 97 Ron (cap says use 98 minimum) a spirited drive later and the light has come on - could this be the cause? The only other thing that has changed is I cleaned and re-oiled the K&N filter so don't know if I dislodged anything taking it out, but that was last week...

Am just going to drop off at the Garage but if this WAS the issue would the best bet be to take the fuel out? Use it all up? Is it going to harm the car using it with he light on?

I guess I'm just thinking out loud and I'm nervous to use it 'assuming' thats what it is when it could be something worse?

Help!

I doubt the fuel would have done it.

I ran mine on Esso 97 for years with no issue.

A code reader will give you a better idea of what may be happening.

Going to reset the ECU and then let it idle for 5 mins and see what happens, if it comes back on I will take to the garage..

Honda will fleece you for £50+ simply to plug in the code reader.

Try a friendly local who will be able to pull the code for free or even better see if somebody on here near you has a reader and do it yourself.

I assume the light is not flashing. If it is then do not drive the car under any circumstances.

Where about are you? If you're anywhere near me I'll read the code for you.

Have you been breaking my first S
As LTB says buy a reader for £20 extract the code and reset it.
BTW over oiling filters can result in oil & $hit all over the MAP and IAT
James is up in Yorkshire not that far from Garage R (unless he has moved since it he bought it from me)

Thanks all...

LTB - it wasn't flashing but I didn't know that so thanks...

I reset the ECU, let it idle then took for a spirited 20 mile run with a couple of park ups engine off/on and its not come back on so hoping that's it.. seems to be running a little better if anything (?)

The only garage I would have taken it to was my local one anyway - think I might invest in a reader now just in case it ever happens again.

She's fine Mike, this is the first 'problem' I have had in over 5 years!! If you're feeling nostalgic we can swap?

BTW, I did give the filter plenty of oil but it's contained in the FIPK housing and I didn't run it for a week after doing it so it should have dried out ok...

Give me a couple of years to think about you very kind offer
Is it really 5 years!
Glad to hear it is nothing serious
Problem with the oil is the air flow through the filter pulls it through and it coats everything
