Default Engine Temperature

I have been having a poblem with my engine temperature guage for a while but it now seems to be getting worse ...

On a cold day, when I startup the car, the engine temperature gauge shows a single bar and it can take a while for it to get to 2 bars.

On a hot day I startup the car and I get 5 bars displayed but when I drive around for a while it drops back down to 2 or 3. This also happens when I startup the engine whilst it is hot.

I initially put this down to the Modify engine temp mod that I installed to use with the AEM ECU, but now I am not so sure. I can remember Mase telling me he thought that there were some problems with a sensor the first time he setup the car with the AEM.

Where is the temperature gauge picking up the temperature from?

stand on the passenger side, next to the wing

locate battery and then follow that over to the back of the engine, its on the rear of the block you can miss it, its a large plug covered by a rubber grey sleeve

Yep i'd guess it's the sensor rather than the thermostat itself.

Is the sensor in the rocker cover?

I can see that one plugs into the side and another into the top. Is it either one of these?

Thanks Mike, I found it. Doesn't look too bad to get into if I disconnect a couple of hoses.

Anyone know how much Honda charge for these sensors?

Gae bile yer 'stat!

Seriously, our cars are getting old now & if there's any doubt, I'd change the stat as a precaution.

I think this is the correct part:

37870-PK2-005 SENSOR ASSY., WATER TEMP (HADSYS)

Price around £60.

Chris.

Can you not monitor the sensor and see it operate correctly/incorrectly?
