Default Engine Torque damper?

I am looking to get an engine damper for my S. Who has bought one of these already and in all honesty is it worth it?

I was thinking of buying a civic torque damper and modifying the brackets, these are about

I got a J's one with the matching tower brace ....

It is one of these things that I never notice ..... but I am sure I would if I removed it.

Yeah I'm considering one of the J's ones
IIRC you need to hack the heat shield or get the J's one!

Only really noticeable when cornering hard. Reduces a lot of movement in the gear knob and teh engine hence a smoother transition of power through the drive train. Would I do it again? Erm, probably not.

Looks good in the engine bay though

from a pure driving feel.. it certainly makes changing across the gearbox smoother..

I also thought it was meant to absorb some of the shock that the engine/drivetrain feels during acceleration/deceleration

I had one on my DC2, but sold it fairly quickly... as its damping effect wasn't anything special IMO! I took it to bits too find a small bush too. I wouldn't bother with one for the S.

Get a passenger to observe the gear stick when you are taking a long sweeping bend or when you let off the throttle - there is quite a bit of movement. But with the ETD, this movement is minimal. However, when idling, you can feel the revs through the gear knob.

Having said that, the gear shifting is improved and have no trouble selecting gears when at full throttle or when down shifting. Whereas, previously crusing in 6th, blipping the thottle to select 3rd would sometimes get me hitting the gate between 3rd and 5th - but haven't done that since installing the ETD.

It is a good mod, but as Steven states, you'd only miss it if you removed it after having it installed.
