Default Engine Warning Light

On the drive to work this morning the engine warning light came on and stayed on.

Car drives ok, engine sounds normal.

Any body any ideas what it might be?

Am I safe driving it the 20 miles to the dealer?

Yes, if the CEL is on then you should drive carefully to the dealer. No 0-60 tests or traffic light grand prixs, just nice and steady.

If the CEL is flashing I think that's a different matter.

I wouldn't be unduly concerned; a sudden spike in a value can set it off.

Generally, I pull the fuse if nothing obvious is amiss. If the light returns, there really IS a problem.

Flashing CEL may be a prelude to a grenade engine & ought to be trated more seriously.

Hi

what fuse should I pull?

The car drives fine, it even goes in VTEC

I've just bought a code reader from ebay too

Went to dealer this mornign he wanted £50 to pull the code off, I told him he was having a laugh and left.

Don't pull any fuse until you have the CEL code

just to close this off, it was indeed the lambda sensor

and some praise from me for Francis honda

Avonvale wanted £50 just to tell me the code.

Francis charged me £36 to get the code and fit the new lambda sensor

(sensor part was £170)

Good work.

You can buy your own reader for about £30-40 from Ebay to save you pennies in future!
