Expensive speed check
I had my photo taken last week.
Driving along a road I know well, overtake some slower cars reaching 80 mph+ began to slow to more normal speed when I rounded a shallow bend and there it was
, brand new camera
.
So to point of the this thread. My speedo said my speed is 80mph, Camera say's I was doing 74 mph.
Can we take the speed reading to be accurate???.
Is the camera being kind to S2000???
Are the police not really trying to catch us!
I do not know.

Peter,
First of all .. Bummer... sorry to hear it.
Having said that I'm not sure, what you're asking. You say you'd started to slow from 80 when you saw the camera.. it doesn't take long to lose 6 mph!
I think you can take it as read that the camera is likely to be accurate. When these automated Robo Cops (Let's face it that's what they are) are put in place, the last thing that's needed are a lot of cases contested around the accuracy of the equipment. My guess is that they're also subjected to periodic tests by driving through it's measuring zone at a controlled speed.
As to whether or not the cops/authorities are out to catch you, the answer is Yes !! The only thing I will say is that there's likely to be a tolerance zone of some sort between the max permissable speed and when the camera triggers. Very few of these devices are set to 'zero tolerance' Most drivers are also voters.
Obviously the way these things are set up will vary on the policy from area to area.
I take it this was non-motorway and therefore a 60 limit?

Thank you for caring, To be more clear, I was slowing from 80+ mph, when I saw the flash I clocked 80 mph on the dash.
my point, Is the clock on the dash right?.
can we use this for 0 - 60 times or do we have to use some other means of measurement?.

Car speedos are notoriously inaccurate and I think I'm correct in saying something like 10% inaccuracy is not uncommon up to about 40mph when they tend to gradually become more accurate for a while and then start to suffer again at the top end. Whether our digital set up is any better I dunno, but I doubt it. You have to assume that the odometer which measures distance travelled is similarly U/S.
0-60 times as published in mags are taken with far more accurate equipment. Have you seen Tyringe's thread on the GForce meter? That's one piece of kit that a lot of testers use.
The reason I care mate is it could be me tomorrow!

Having just installed a Road Angel which measures your speed with GPS, have discovered my speedo is 0.5% out. When you are doing 30mph this is obviously not terribly relevant, but when you are doing 100mph (not that I do!) that is quite significant.
The 0.5% is in 'our' favour, so if you are doing 80mph by your speedo, the chances are you are doing 76mph!!

I've noticed our digital speedo runs behind on slowdown. I guess that's what you had. It must average out the last few time samples. So will be under on rapid acceleration and over on sharp deceleration. Which fits with your experience.
