Default Experiencing the Revs...!

I've been running in the car, below 600 miles I kept it under 4500rpm, at 600 I took it to 5,500-6000rpm, I reached 700 miles yesterday so I am now hitting 7000rpm.... When VTEC kicks in (I notice it around 6200rpm, but this is whilst accelerating in second gear, maybe this kicks in slightly lower if accelerating through 1st gear onwards(?)), It is a seriously strange feeling to adapt to - every other car I've owned has always lost power and struggled at the 6000rpm range, but this beast simply comes alive and snaps into skitzo mode! I just can't wait to be hitting that 9000rpm mark! Does the pushback progressively increase towards 9000rpm or is it a sudden snap at 6000rpm then a steady rise to 9000rpm? I guess I'll find out soon enough!

I also noticed that whilst running it in there has been a massive improvement lowdown, the engine is less tight and much smoother/more responsive. (I've been checking oil levels constantly and all seems well)

Infact there really isn't much point to this post but I had to brag about it to someone!! Noone else seems to understand!

Cheers,

Pt.

Ps. On a quick note: What do you guys use to clean the dash & doors? (I'd rather use an Autoglym product - which is the best one to go for?)

The good news is that they tend to keep getting quicker up to about 10K miles!

I find that once you've passed the kick at VTEC onset, the power keeps coming smoothly, all the way to 9.2K just like squirting a hose! I think I can feel a quick blast coming on!!

Carry on bragging - we understand

Regarding cleaning the dashboard and leather. I use those Pledge Dust and Go wipes to remove the dust - because it's thinner than a normal duster it's easy to get in all the nooks and crannies. Then use Autoglym leather polish for the doors, seats and dash.

Be careful when you clean the seats because you can clog the little holes up with the polish. I rub the duster, with the polish on, on the sides of the seats to get rid of the excess then clean the seat and back.

If you get dust caught in the holes, they appear as white spots, you can poke the stuff right the way through with a cocktail stick - but be careful.

Congrats!

The pull on my car is just plain constant and strong from 6,000 right on up, that is until you bump into the rev limiter.

This 9 grand screamer is a blast. I have 3,000 miles and am getting adjusted to a new way of driving. I have to be SO VERY CAREFUL now when I drive my other car or the truck or someone else's car, the tendency to over rev them is very strong. I have gotten adjusted to the 9,000 RPM scream and when driving something else I look down when there is no scream and I'm at red or already in it. Just this morning I made a pass on someone coming into work and I looked down and I had the '90 CRX-Si at 7,100 RPMs, the red is 6,500.

I wish I hadn't read this, its raining outside and now I want to get in my car and VTEC

You've been careful, doing the right thing checking the oil, running the car in, now you owe it to yourself to try this: Find a straight empty road and VTEC from 2nd, through 3rd, 4th, 5th, you'll probably have to lift off before reaching 6th believe me

The power doesn't seem to drop off at all, so much so I've hit the rev limiter a few times when things have been too frantic to keep an eye on the tachometer and I've been erm...accelerating out of danger I've never had this happen in any other car

I use Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care on the doors and dash. It cleans away hand marks etc ok, only snag is that unless you wipe the whole dash/door you have nice dark area that slowly evaporates over the course of a week and a lighter dry area so after cleaning the dash once I tend to vacuum it each week and just clean the driver's door and radio cover with the Autoglym stuff.

Congratulations Pt. The 6 to 9k rpm balst just keeps getting quicker as the miles go on the car. I noticed the engine got even smoother and more tractable after the 1st service and switching to Mobil 1 oil.

I would recommend avoiding AutoGlym's Rubber & Vinyl cleaner even though this would seem the correct choice, it leaves a shiny, glossy finish that looks rather cheap & nasty IMO. AutoGlym's Interior cleaner (green label, forgotten its full name ) does a great job of cleaning and dries to a nice matt effect. I would spray it on and then wipe off with a cloth dampened in clean water. Keep a bowlful to hand to rinse the cloth in. It also cleans up muddy marks on the lower kickpanels and the sills too.

I wonder what would happen if we pushed the rev-limiter up to...oh say, 10,000 rpm

haven't driven the car for a week - and reading a post like this makes me want to give it a run right now - unfortunately I've had a few beers - it's half time and the French'ies are losing 1-0 which makes good TV, have to wait until the morning to get that VTEC feeling again
