Default Fire extinguishers

I saw a car go up in flames the other day... I was amazed how quickly the small engine fire spread and burnt the car out... I am not a fireman so don't know if it could have easily been put out... I don't know what caused the fire either.... But a fire extinguisher might have been able to save the car if the owner had acted quickly......

Who has a fire extinguisher for their S2? Could easily fit one in the boot in the little well thing....

I am getting one this week!

I've got a small one in the secret boot compartment. But I think if there was a fire under the bonnet, I'd probably just run away rather than try to open it and tackle the fire.

I saw a car fire in Banbury once: poor woman came running up to me in tears saying her car was on fire, so I bravely told her to call the fire brigade. It was only smoking at that stage, but by the time the fire brigade got there (10 minutes from half a mile away) it was quite a big fire.

I've got two. A chunky one I've had for a while, and I got a smaller one in a first aid kit I got (for euro trips).

Not sure how effective they'd be, but I'd give it a go if the worst happened.

more useful for helping someone else in distress than putting out a fire in your own car imo

opening a bonnet/tackling a fire can be a very dangerous game

if it was my car, I'd wander off and phone Fire and Rescue, closely followed by my insurance company

then I'd buy a copy of autotrader and think about the next one

(the exception would be if I had a classic, but all moderns are replaceable)

After talking to Burnie on a euro hoon after his experiences

(oil filter coming off and fire extinguisher over it for good measure)
I decide to bolt one to the floor just in front of the passenger seat.

yes, but Burnie drives around in circles for thirty minutes at a time

it's no wonder the bloody oil filter unscrewed

I have one in my passenger foot well. Would I use it if push comes to shove........well I'd like to think that I'd have a go, but not at the expense of my life. It's only a car after all. Let the experts deal with it IMO.

As a fireman the best advice is to leave the car and call the fire brigade.

Opening the bonnet can cause it to flash and seriously burn you, and also squirting a fire extinghisher at the block can cause the melted metal to fizz up and burn, and i have seen that happen. Also the smoke and fumes are toxic, not good at all to the lovely lungs we have, hence why we use breathing apparatus

Also from experience i have had a tyre explode from a fire and the rubber stick to my face so one little bit of advice...

leave it to the people who get paid to get burnt, not worth risking your health for a car, its only metal

and i am sat at work writing this to
