Driving to a country pub for tea last night, the check engine light came on. It has stayed on since then, but the car seems to be driving normally as far as I can tell, though obviously I've only driven it gently since it came on...
I phoned Honda and they're going to have a look on Monday. Has anyone else had a CEL on a newish S2000? Looking through the many posts in the forums, they seem to occur mainly on older cars?

I had the same problem that developed on Tuesday.
Two days before though, I had let the fuel run really low (the light was on for more than 10 miles).
The dealer seems to think this may have caused it. The first time I took it to them, they reset it and said dont let the fuel run so low again (they would charge me next time)
But today coming back from my night shift the same thing occurred with plenty of fuel. I took it back and they said it was a faulty o2 sensor.
Im getting a new one under warranty.
Im still not convinced though. Why would the sensor suddenly fail on an 06 car. Im sure its got something to do with running the fuel down.
Ive added some injection cleaner to the full tank - will see if that helps.
Also Im sure the car is not Vtec ingm as normal but maybe im just getting paranoid :-(

Ok, to the OP it's not unusual to get the odd CEL, and I wouldn't worry about driving it until Monday as long as it feels ok.
You have to get them to tell you what code they get and the number - you have a right to know. It helps in case you get future ones.
Bhamani - i've heard of a few nearly new 02 sensors fail - they can be fragile. Using injector cleaner for a problem you don't know what is seems a bit odd?
The 02 sensor isn;t used on VTEC so it won't be affecting it. Not to say something else is - like your oil level for example.
Running on low fuel shouldn't cause any probs - this crap you hear about picking up some debris from the bottim of the tank is a load of cobblers IMO.
You should see how fine the fuel filter in the tank is, and its' aslo quite big. As soon as you switch the car off any crap will fall off it anyway.

That's interesting about the fuel... AFAIK, it's never been below around 1/4 of the tank. It was around 1/2 full when the light came on and I only use V-Power or Tesco 99 RON, so hopefully I can discount that if they suggest it.
The lady on the service desk did ask about oil level. I had already checked it and it's fine. Incidentally, does anyone else find the dipstick a pain on the S? It's very awkward to get it in and out, plus I don't think it's very easy to read. It's also in an awkward position for someone tall like me to get at, as the bonnet doesn't go very high to allow access!
Edited to thank MB for the advice re. getting the code from Honda. I will endeavour to do so!

Take it out from the drivers side.
Do it in daylight or good electric light.
Take it straight out and hold it sideways to prevent oil dripping off.
Wipe it and put it back in, then repeat.
I do it when the engine is cold generally, it expands when hot so you have to compensate a bit.
Don't do it just after you switch it off - unless you leave it 10 mins. (all needs to drip back to the oil pan)
Never had a problem with it....

Try not to mix Tesco 99 with normal Super unleaded grades, it can cause issues with starting and misfires - this could have caused the CEL.
Fuel tanks are spotless, the fuel is constantly circulated and the fuel filter will pick up any crap. UK pump fuel is pretty clean too. I run mine on the light quite a bit, its still got 1.8 gallons left when the light is on.
A strut brace makes checking the oil much easier, gives you something to lean on.

I've got an 06 which had been problem free until Dec '07. Then I got the CEL and took it to the dealer. They reset it saying it was 02 sensor and to see how it goes. It came on again (after about 10 miles) so took it back and they ordered new 02 sensor fitted early January. Fine since then until last week - CEL and 02 sensor again. Reset and waiting for a new one to come in to the dealers early next week. Oddly enough, each time they reset it, the CEL has always appeared at almost exactly the same place on my way home from work.
Edit to add - I always use Shell Optimax (or whatever it's called nowadays) and it had a 2 year service just before the new 02 sensor apparently failed so oil levels etc. are all fine.
