Default First time post from a potential owner.

Hi everybody

This is my first time post on this board. I have been trawling through these pages in the background now for a few weeks as I am considering buying a new S2000GT. I have also had a car out on test on two separate occasions, what a BEAST.
Any way there is one question I must put to you all out there, as I have one little thing that

I guess people are reluctant to slag off a car we all love.
But I will admit to being unhappy with clutch - mine needed changing within the first month and I'm not convinced I'm not still getting a bit of slip. And yes the gearbox is nowhere near as nice as the Civic or Integra boxes.
BUT it is one hell of a car - it does feel good with the hood down. So go for it - just make sure you off load it before its three years old and the warranty runs out.

Welcome

From what I remember, some cars manufactured with the older clutch plate, had vibrations and possibly a ringing sound when decelerating in 2nd gear. The 055 clutch plate fixed this problem. I have had the plate changed in my 2001 car and have not experienced any vibratios or noise since.

The gearbox can be a little stiff but soon loosens up after a few minutes into a journey. I have never found this to be a problem.

The 055 spec clutch has different dampening springs.

With the 054 disc, it didn't dampen some vibrations. In particular, if you decelerated through 4,000rpm there was a horrible buzzing.

Gearbox, there are ocassional boxes with problems, but in general it's the best gearbox in the world.

FYI, I've had 054 clutch originally. This was replaced with the 055 clutch at around 7,500miles due to the vibration. Then I got a 3rd 055 clutch @ 9,000 miles when the gearbox was also replaced for a vibration and gear selection problem. I'm one of a very few owners who's had gearbox problems. I'm now past 25,000 miles, no more problems.

I`ve got a late 01 with 6k on the clock. I can never tell if mine buzz`s or not....I love ALL the sounds it makes!

It will be an 054 plate and has *not* had the dampening spring upgrade, but I don`t think it needs it. A lot of what you read on here with be nothing but praise for the vehicle....

No more than it deserves. I`ve owned quite a few cars and nothing compares to the S for me. The nearest `ownership sensation` I could offer is my old, old 2CV (crazy I know) but that `part of a club` feel.

The drive is a little different, agreed........

Tomcat,

Welcome to the board. Like A_Wooly my gearbox and clutch are fine. I've a 02 model with 13,000 on the clock and haven't had any problems. My S is my only car and I haven't got any complaints - nothing but praise. Every time I get behind the wheel I always end up with a big

All the best

I think the gearbox is a problem if you are not after an ultra-short shift, positive, quick 6-speed box

18months old 6000 miles - drive everyday, no problems.
