Default Fixing Rattles

Hi guys,

One of the things I am dissapointed about with the S2000 is the amount of rattles mine seems to have.

I have used the search but I keep getting an page does not exist error. But after a look on Google it appears the S2000 is prone to lots of rattles!

I found this Honda Service Bullet-in on how to fix roof rattles:

https://www.s2ki.com/shared/library/...-023/index.htm

I will get on to that! The EPT Sealer mentioned in the article - is that just foam tape, that the stuff used for numberplates but in black?

The most annoying rattle I have seems to be coming from the drivers seat belt area (from behind I think) and is is really annoying me! It sounds like the belt is rubbing the seat. Any advice?

Also do we have a general rattles and how to fix them thread? It would be a useful resource I think!

Cheers,
Anees

I think the search function is knackered as I cannot use it either, it comes back with a 403 forbidden message.

The centre console rattles quite a bit on mine, I intend to use some sticky backed foam/rubber around the edge of the lid to prevent this.

Make sure your striker plates screws (where the hood connects to the windscreen frame) are done up tightly, they have been known to come loose. Check for wear on the striker plates too, if they are worn, put some plastic tubing on the hook of the hood catch, or get a new set of GT striker plates from a stealer.

HTH

Your belt shouldn't rattle on the seat, as it is two soft materials against each other, but you hood may be squeaking/rattling at the pivots...give them a good lube with some white grease. Work it in by lowering/raising the hood whilst spraying.

One of the reasons the car gets rattly is the door buffers (and bonnet/bootlid ones!) screw themselves in.

Whilst adjusting, treat all seals/rubbers with Holt's silicone & rubber lubricant.

The driver's seat rattle could actually be a loose spare wheel, BTW.

The seatbelt can squeak against the leather where it's polished it smooth. I fitted some self-adhesive felt to stop it. Works a treat.

I've currently got squeaks from the glovebox area which I want to solve, it's annoying me.

Have a look at your headunit .. there is a dial with "volume" on it.

Keep turning it until the rattles go away

Right...... I am getting tooled up LOL

I have got some of that Honda Shin-Etsu Silicone Grease and have just been and bought some White Lithium Grease from Halfords and also got some of the tape they use for fixing bits to car bodywork. I have some bits of speaker carpet so can use that to cushion noises.

I kinda figured a DAB install would be cheaper than yet another secondhand diff!

It's cured the whistle nicely.

My drivers side door rubs against the rubber bit at the top of the body.

Are the latches where the door closes onto adjustable, or should I replace the rubber stops? The door does sit a tiny bit proud (1-2mm) from the rest of the body, so I'm thinking that the door needs to be closer in...any ideas?

I also found that the weather strip on the same door is a little loose. The little gromit on the end (towards the rear) doesn't secure the strip properly, it therefore squeaks. I hope one of those strip securing clips underneath isn't broken...they are a PITA to replace!

I've had a closer look at the centre console lid, and wrapping electrical tape around 'U' shaped latch/clip thingy seems like the best way to stop it from juddering over bumps.

Although possibly the worst suggestion, it is however, the most entertaining.
