Default Fog

Its doing my head in... not the fog, thick British drivers. HELLO I AM BEHIND YOU, NO NEED FOR YOUR FOGLIGHTS TO BE ON, I CAN SEE YOU.

Why do they insist on keeping them on and dazzling everyone around them? Also there are too many pricks out with their front fogs on too. Do they not realise that they cannot see any better in the fog in daylight. In the dark down unlit roads, I can completely understand why a driver needs front fogs, but I am not sure why in any other situation. Also rear fogs are acceptable in similar situations and are a MUST on motorways, when not in traffic.

Its not hard to run a campaign educating the driver for the proper use of fog lights, but as we all know the Whitehall f**kwits are only interested in the quick buck from scameras.

I think u will also find Moff, fog lights are not for use when visibility is greater than 100metres.. Rule 201 HW Code. Pisses me off to... but more so when they are not used - in particualr headlight in reduced visibility.

Did u also know, that the Chief Police chappy in Durham has said no to Speed cameras - instead he has stated he wants u to be stopped by a copper instead. Top idea i think there.

I'm with Moff. I paid a lotta dosh to get the OEM fogs fitted on the CTR and I've had occasion to use them twice so far! The problem with fogs is they've become a sort of fashion statement, and their illegal use is now very widespread! They cause loads of problems particularly when they're not adjusted properly and they dazzle oncoming cars badly on wet roads....They're an absolute menace and no-one seems to be doing a damned thing about it!

I'm pretty sure that it carries a max fine of

I once got an ear-bending for incorrect use of FRONT fogs (in the old dim-dip days).

Fcuk my lcuk. WTF does no-one do that to the squillions of rear foglight wallies that one sees?

I know, they're all part of a conspiracy to make me paranoid

Ah 'tis mainly the old fogies to blame!
Such as moi!

Since I took my test in year dot there have been so many changes in the RTA, highway code and what have you, that many older people, and some not so old, never bother to keep themselves up with what is new and what is happening!

In my time we have had motorways, panda and pelican crossings, changes in speed limits, double white lines, yellow lines, red lines and boxes, one way streets, many new road signs, seat belts, speed cameras and a thousand and one other things. I've kept on top of it - but I'm probably in the minority.

I do know that around my home town we have loads of old dunderheads who can't even see over the steering wheel, let alone drive sensibly!

Front fogs are a different matter to rears.

Fronts don't bother me, in fact they are a useful early indicator that you are shortly to be tailgated or subjected to a mad overtake.

If they are badly adjusted, then that's different, but it's not my experience.

I think they are THE most pointless accessory after headlamp washers. I've had front fogs on almost all of my cars for as long as I can remember. They are totally useless for seeing anything and I only switch them on with the rear fog to help other people see me.

As for a fashion statement, where's that tosser emoticon? That would be the same fashion you make when you get a 318iS then.

Rear fog lights do dazzle, particularly in rain, but then it is acceptable to use them in rain; it's the visibility that's the determinant. You can always drop back a bit............

The main reason people forget to switch off rear fogs is that the switch is often an afterthought and is not in the driver's line of sight. It should be linked to the main lights and disabled whenever you restart. It could also be time limited, to, say, 30 minutes, the way Ford time limit heated screens.

I try to alert people to the problem by putting my hazards on as I pull back in after overtaking (leaving a big gap so they don't stamp on their brakes), then flipping my rear fog on and off a few times. Works most of the time.
