Default Fuel

Fuel light came the other day on my way home so,as I had little choice, filled half a tank with Tesco regular 95 ron unleaded. I have driven a further 50 miles since and if anything the car is performing better than it ever did on 98 & I was happy with it then!
Am I missing something here ? Anyone else had similar experience ?

It's in your head...the car shouldn't run better on a lesser standard fuel.

Your MPG will be better on 97 (98 not available in the UK AFAIK) or 99 RON than 95.

Except if the gas station you were using up to now was not selling a true 97 or 99 RON

you get around 30 more miles to the tank on 98(99) than you do on 95, so at the moment its more economical to run on 98(99).

OK - Thanks I was just curious as a relatively new owner. I have every intention of filling up next time with the 98/99 grade

Don't run them on shit petrol.

I'm sure I remember reading these cars dont have knock sensors (the ability to retard ignition on shit petrol). You risk pre-detonation in the cylinders which will result in a large bill.

Stick to Vpower.

depends what the ECU is tuned for.
EU/UKDM cars can run fine on 95 iirc.
JDM's need 97-98 minimum else it runs bad, feels 30bhp down and just generally hesitant.

Would be a pretty big design flaw if it didn't for numerous reasons

Why do you think it says 95/98 inside the petrol flap? of corse they have a knock sensor!
