Geometry Discussion...

Well I thought it would be useful to have a geometry discussion thread, where you can post a pic of your geometry print outs, car ride height and discuss it.

So to start here is mine, opinions? Is there anything I should look to change? My front near side caster adjuster was seized, all others were free.

No banter please, this could be an informative thread.

I'll get mine scanned when possible and post after the hols, no scanner at home.

Note that TGM's printout is in fractions of a degree rather than degrees and minutes.

Looks very good, think the rear toe is slightly more positive than Oem? Although don't quote me on that.

If it feels good then that would make me happy :)

Anyone like to contribute their settings and any geometry knowledge they may have?

r8byb 01-07-2011 02:21 AM

What would you like to know? :)

my settings are

-3.1 camber R -2.3 camber F
+1.5mm toe R 0 toe F
standard castor.

Car feels great to drive really sure footed compared to standard, it hasn't had any adverse effect on tramlining which I thought it may do. I really have no negatives the rear feels planted, the front doesn't understeer, what more could you want :)

Also just to add, I've had the same tyres with these settings for 7000 miles and tyre wear is perfectly even on all four corners!

Here is my geo history (up to a point, although things are reasonably settled now with some slight changes. It's certainly interesting to see how much it gets knocked out of whack over the course of a year.

1 deg camber at the front, 6 deg castor, 0 toe
2 deg camber at the rear, 30' toe each side

I'd like to work out how much .1 degree of camber adjustment +/- moves the wheel in relation to arch clearance, would make working fitments out much easier!

I'll be the first to admit I don't know how it actually affects the car, just know what camber, tow, and caster etc. means and when it wad don'e properly the car drove 100% better.

Toe points the wheels in or out in relational to horizontal line down the centre of the car. Toe out will generally make the rear feel more loose but more responsive, toe in will make the car feel more stable but less responsive. Different chassis's and suspension layouts react differently, although that's the general rule of thumb reguarding toe.

Camber is really down to personal preference and really what your aiming for is creating a perfectly flat tyre when cornering. If your running road tyres you may be able to create enough roll to bring the tyre flat in a corner with -2.5 camber before the grip levels go off. Running semi slicks you may be able to run -3.5 as the tyres generate more grip creating more roll to bring the tyre flat when cornering.

Hope that helps :)
