Default going back to stock!

After one tuning problem and an exploding supercharger the rebuilt TODA engine in my car has given up after about 3000miles! I am well p1ssed off with it so I have decided to put the car back to stock! I settled my dispute with SVA and they are going to do the work on returning the car to normal.

I did like the car when it was supercharged and working but I am looking forward to getting it back to standard. I think a stock s2000 is really plently fast for road driving. Although I will miss the vicious power of the supercharger I liked being able to thrash the bollocks the car and not have to worry about it going wrong! With the supercharger at first it takes some getting used to before you are confident to thrash it (especially in the wet!). Once I built up confidence the first time I did really thrash it (brands hatch a few weeks back) the engine died!

So I will be selling a lot of bits coming off the car (Vortech, AEM, etc) and some bits that didn't even make it on yet, DECAT and other bits sometime. I think if you want to modify a car its best to do it yourself else its too expensive if you get problems.

I can sympathise Dan.

I guess had SVA not cocked it up and you had a fully working SC from the off, you would still have it now which is a shame.

What's this Toda engine?! What went wrong with it?

Great that you got to do Brands in it, and you are keeping the car though!

In no way having a dig, as this is unfortunate but maybe a lesson for anyone else trying this that there are pitfalls in supercharging

Rambo, the key things are to buy a new SC and get it mapped by someone very experienced.

I bought mine second hand and it was fine, but you never quite know what condition its in.

Dan - want to know about this Toda engine!

Ya, I got a new Vortech!!! I wont let anyone get near it apart from MAse And I will be conservative when it come to boost as well. I probably will drive below 4000rpm on base map once installed and wait another one to two weeks before it is tuned.

I will let eveyone know how i get on!

If one wants FI get an Evo. Enjoy the S for what it is: a car built and balanced around one of the greatest NA 4 cylinder engines ever created.

Mark the car was rebuilt with a TODA 2.2l Low Compression Stroker Kit and an Anti-G Sump so I was looking to boost up to 12.5psi and go for 400BHP (I have the vortech pulley and belt). Anyways I had been running the car all day and on probably my last lap at brands I was going down the straight in 3rd heading towards redline (9000rpm), changed to 4th, something went CLUNK and that was it. TDI said they took a look and a cam follower has broke and it looks like bits of it went into the engine and caused it to seize again.

Anyone thinking of going supercharged I mean most people here seem to have no problems but I had loads! I would be careful it can get expensive if things do go wrong.

2.2 stroker and FI

I would have strengthened the 2l unit with toughened crank, rods, vavle springs, retainers etc and then gone for more boost. Stroking to 2.2 is just about ok on na but that will weaken things a fair bit anyway. I trust the redline was reduced??
