Default Good engine anyone?

...one day after it was MOT'd with flying colours!

Karen thinks I didn't over-rev it before the attempted overtake; I'm unsure since the sun was in the instruments & I was flying by ear.

But it wasn't the familiar roughness of the rev limiter (unless I hugely misjudged the road speed!) The car began to overtake, lost power slightly following a 'tinkle' before the usual blow-up. It was No.1 that went off at a tangent, BTW.

The car was still in VTEC when I took the head off. I freed it off that & found no.1 exhausts are jammed open. All other valve clearances seem spot-on. The cam gear is otherwise in perfect condition.

I heard someone else had the heads drop off no.1 valves at around 35K miles, so it might be that.

Anyway, any tips/pointers greatly appreciated!

Sorry to hear this Nick!

Good luck sourcing a new block.

We'll be interested in your analysis of what went wrong.

Sorry to read this Nick. I hope you get her on the road quickly. Several of us use Furber Bros to source secondhand bits - that's who supplied PJL's engine, I believe.

Sorry to hear Nick.

What is the abuse you'd given the engine?

Any suspicion regarding the MOT?

I insist I sit with the car, and go with it if it needs driving by anyone.

I also have a device coming out to monitor what people do with the car while not in your posession

I am a bit too paraniod though

The MOT I had on the 911 a couple of weeks ago was the first I've had to have in upwards of 10 years, so I'm no expert on them, but I was under the impression that the MOT didn't require a road test - it's all static, done in the workshop?

Hope you get it sorted quickly and at least possible expense, Nick.

They generally are in the workshop LL, but some like to take them on a "road test" if you know what I mean...

some brake testers dont compensate for an LSD so a road test with a tapley meter is called for

tapley meters register deacceleration by the use of a weight

turn it around it will then measure acceleration!

hope you source an engine soon
