Default Got my DVLA docs through today

sooo do I stick on the mis-spaced plates on?

is this an MOT failure and if so could insurance use it as a way of not paying out in the event of a claim

Pate check is now part of the MOT. Checked with Clover Leaf Honda (Ascot) and they confirmed that i) they will check for mis-spacing, ii) they will fail an MOT if mis-placed and iii) they will not pass me even if I take in the correct plates and show them I have them (to save me swapping plates over for a few hours). Net........when MOT comes around will have to replace plates which is a pain as I have used the Halfords sticky pads and they are a pain to get off each time!.

my main concern is that if it's an MOT failure in theory it invalidates your insurance

surely no insurance company would play up though would they?

Good point. You'd hope not but then that assumes that insurance companies are not out to make money at every opportunity??!!. Personally would take the risk I think.

I'm in this position - need to MOT in April I think. I may need to break the plates off, and then get 2 new sets, 1 legal, 1 not. I may use Velcro on my plates in future.

You can get the plates off (when stuck with the sticky pads) without breaking the plates but it is a bit of a pain. Even worse is getting the residue off the plate holders!.

Velcro sounds like a fantastic solution........does it satisfy requirements (if any) as to how secure plates should be etc?.

Just checked Vehicle Inspectorate website and, within MOT test, the following is the description of the testing related to registration plates - "Condition, security, legibility and format of letters/numbers".

I guess I'd query "security".........what are they driving (no pun intended!) at here?. Is it how secure the plate is affixed or ease of removal from car?. If so, would velcro pass as it must be pretty easy to remove?.
