Default halfords battery sets the alarm off

I bought a new battery from Halfords (HB053), installed it, and the alarm went off non stop. I habe to remove the battery to stop the alarm. I nearly went deaf!

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Sounds like there is no charge in the battery or its not holding its charge.

I know from experience when a battery fails or wont hold its charge, the alarm goes off until the battery is totally dead. I had this problem when my battery was duff.

Check the voltage on your battery. Then take it back and get a replacement.

Might be worth just checking the CCA. I bought a Halfrauds one last winter when I was in a muddle as they had one sitting on the shelf. The one they supply that is supposedly 'correct for the car' actually has a much lower CCA than the OEM item therefore triggering the alarm on initial start up even though the car does start ok.

Their batteries are rated lower because they're measured in a different standard ( EN ) Whereas the OEM one was more than likely ( SAE ) rated which is rated higher.

Give you a rough idea what I am on about.

If you can get your cash back, go to Honda and get the OEM one, spec'ed for the car and reasonable price.

I struggle to see why you wouldn't buy a Honda OEM one, when it's £10 cheaper than a Halfords one?

True, in which case it should be very easy to return it!

Thanks for the replies ... maybe it is the Halfords battery (which is new btw) Although I have had issues with the alarm going off unnecessarily, but that sounds like it was probably due to the old one having low charge. Also I have installed the same battery HB053 a few years ago and it was fine. Maybe they changed that battery spec in the meantime. I think I will go to Honda chiswick and get the OEM. thanks again
