Default Hard Tops

I was driving along yesterday and there wasn't a cloud in the sky , it was brilliant sunshine and I had my hard top on !!! What a nightmare , I wished it was off as I would be topless without doubt. In fact I was thinking I dont need to use the hard top much at anymore , I never drive the S unless its a weekend or I am off work like yesterday. The cons outway the pros I reckon . The good things are the stereo sounds better and its more secure but I never park anywhere anyway I use my beater for that . The cons are the added weight must make a difference to performance, the rattles and sqeeks get on my nerves as I have none of these when the rag top is up . And the main thing is I think when you put a hard top on the S you take away some of its personality. After all its a 2 seater sports convertible and to enjoy it to the maximum you have to have the roof off. Thats what I bought it for , if I wanted a coupe I would have bought a breadvan like GSI but I dont . Next time I have someone near to help me I am taking it off , I have done it before on my own but its heavy and dont want to risk a scratch.

Anyway thought I would mention this

I'd agree to an extent, but I do love the way the car looks with it on.It's very noticably more aerodynamic as well, high speed driving is much easier (and quieter). You also have much better visibility out of the back.

Mine has been on for a couple of months now, and it's staying on 'til late March probably.

I like it when it's got the 'top on, it's like having two cars in one. I'll enjoy it even more when I eventually take it off and blast around in the sunshine again.

I wish the hardtop was off on the weekends, but am glad it's there on the weekdays. All week I never drive the thing in daylight anyway and it's just manky conditions to be top down around here - I'd arrive at work covered in mud!
The clear crisp weekends though, are a different matter..

Might have to build a hardtop removal gantry in the garage after all!

This is my third winter with the GT - first one on for 4 months, second winter 1 month........

crying shame to miss out on a lovely crisp day, or fresh snowfall

(although having a garage now makes the decision easier)

I won't buy a GT when I replace the S in the spring.
