Default Hardtop Fitting

After a lot of searching I think I may have finally found the right car at the right price. 54 Plate, 26,000 miles GT. It's in good condition, a couple of minor stone chips but it is 6 years old.
The problem i have is the hardtop.
When its fitted and clamped down, the NS seems to be sitting slightly proud of the windscreen surround, when compared to the OS.
See pictures below
OS

In addition the carpet in the passengers footwell was damp, OK it's been sitting outside in the rain / snow for 6 weeks, do the S2000 suffer with water ingress.

My concern is that the Hardtop may be distorted, the dealer assures me it's likely to be just the catch and will have a new one fitted. I have paid a deposit, so as long as im happy with the hardtop fit it's mine :-).

What do you reckon, am I being overconcerned.

Thanks in anticipation of replies.

Roger

Squeak says: My hardtop sat proud on one side but 20 mins of adjustment sorted it yesterday

Lofty says, easy to sort, pm me to remind me as I am busy and I can explain how

So how did you adjust it. I tried several times, doing the front clamps first then the back and then the other way, all to no avail. Ive read somewhere that the holes can be elongated to get a better fit, however I think it needs pulling down not forward.

The 'real' loftust here

http://www.diccaldwell.co.uk/images/S2000%...nstructions.pdf

If adjustment using the Honda instructions hasn't worked...proceed as follows:

Undo the front catches
Note the two Phillips head screws
Choose a suitable size screwdriver...vvv important
Undo the screws...you will have to push up VERY hard and turn, otherwise you'll just chew the screws.
There will be some shims above the catch...remove how ever many you think sensible.
Refit the screws/catch...loctite is a good idea. It will be fiddly

I did all of this and my HT front catches were still rattling like feck, so I followed this method to make the catches adjustable:

You will need to remove the HT to fit them further forward

And to answer your other question, no S2000s do not suffer from water ingress if they are well maintained. If water is getting in there is a problem somewhere. I would look under the carpet to see how long the problemn has been there and if there is any rust that has resulted. You also need to figure out where the water is coming from and negotiate down on the price based upon your findings.

Any suggestions on where to look for leaks. Assuming everything goes OK, when Ive got it home, I think Ill get the other half to go over it with the hose, so I can check the hood seals. Are there any drains that can become blocked, or anything else I should be looking for.

Christ, now I've opened a can of worms....

Is the water in the footwell? On the pasenger side? I have heard of heater cores leaking into this space, if so that's one hell of a job. If the hood is loose enough that could be leaking. There is a drain for the hood that is basically outside where your shoulder is and it comes out at the front of the wheel well. This can also get clogged and cause various leaks.

Best bet is to have someone spray it with a hose while you are inside to see where the water is coming from.

Personally, I would not buy a car that was wet inside without knowing where it was coming from.
