Has anyone had an issues with a mis-aligned hard top causing damage to the windscreen.

The reason i ask, is my tin top does not seem to be sitting correctly and looks to be slightly twisted.
By this i mean one side does not line up with the door seals and it seems to be sitting rather high as well.

The reason the tin top went on is that i was having work done and would rather this get damaged rather than the soft top.
Put the roof on and drove off down the road and what happens, the screen cracks.
I am not talking about a little crack either this is about 8" long starting at the top then turning into the screen, so it will travel laterally now.

I would not mind if there was a stone chip in the screen, but there is not a single one near the crack.
Anyone heard or had a similar experience?

Cheers,

Simmo

I did have a problem with the hardtop being distorted - after some faffying, it was replaced under warranty. In my case, the hardtop wasn't sealing properly to the windscreen - you could seen the uneveness by eye. Didn't damage the windscreen frame at all though - the HT was at fault.

Have you looked REALLY closely, cos I got a linear crack from the drivers side of the frame and when Karen took it in, they found the tiniest (and I'm talking TINIEST) of circular chips right by the frame.
Needless to say, they didnt replace it under warranty.

Yours is coming from the roof, however, so a misaligned hardtop is not a far-fetched cause....but DO have a close look.
I still think that they should replace the hardtop if there is an alignment problem.

I know of one HT that has been replaced by my local dealer, they asked me to take my car in so they could try my HT on this car. It turned out that the HT was twisted like yours.

Thanks for your comments guys.
I am not to sure that the H/T is twisted but just not intalled correctly, causing undue stress on the A frame.
I will have to take it to Bushey and speak to the manager and get him to take pics and try a warranty claim with Honda. The service manager had a look on Saturday and before he even reached the car he said it did not look right so there may be hope.

Will let you knoe how i get on.

When you take your car in and they agree its not right. Dont let them just put a new fixing kit on. You will need a NEW HARD TOP. And then the dealer can fit the top to your car as it should have been in the first place.

That might be an idea as it has a slight dink in it, probable from an elbow.

I do not know how i would stand on that as it was a last minute job done by the dealer in Belgium as they forgot to order it, when order was placed.
Will be seeing the dealer some time this week so i will let you guy know what they think.

Maybe that was mine, they told me that the first one was warped so they had the car for two days in the end. Hope they made it worth your while

Could well have been MD, as for worth my while. Just happy to help another S2Kier out.
They also gave me a prize for SM1&2 so can't complain, they do look after me.
