Default Has the bubble burst...?

I can't be the only one that was watching this auction with interest...surely this would have been a £25k car six months ago...or is this just seasonal depreciation?

Yes. All cars have dropped in value though, not just S2K's.

Soon we might even see hardtops back under £2k

Agree, most classics went daft and now getting more sensible

I had recently purchased my S2K 2007 with just a bit more mileage than this but with a hardtop, I was watching this auction and thought 20k it would top out given current environment and no hardtop

They are at an ok level now where they may sit for a bit. They is nothing new remotely like the S2000. In fact there is very little quality NA stuff if any

I think as people like me get older and the cars get rarer then the price will increase. But I'd never see a car as an investment... Maybe as artwork if I had a nicer garage lol

I'd agree with that, they don't make 'em like they used too...and if anyone has driven a new car recently it's bloody awful; I really fancied a Mean Green Focus ST estate, in manual....but the driver 'aids' and constant warning bongs are genuinely terrible, couldn't live with them.

Difference story if it was an Edition 100..
Remember these are £720 a year to tax - frankly ridiculous. And I suppose alot of dough for something like this to just "sit" and appreciate. 20k miles later, it'll lose 4-5k in value, currently.
So I'd say £20k was about the limit for this nice example.
In 10 years time however, for the reasons already mentioned, perhaps double that... ?

You can just tax for the 6 months you use it

I don't imagine a car like that on our salty (less so these days?) winter roads. I tucked mine up end of sept

Yes the tax on my 08 is horrendous.
I was moaning about it to a guy at a car show once and he suggested that it was probably a lot cheaper than playing golf!
I only use the car about 4 or 5 months a year nowadays and tax it monthly. £2 a day doesn't seem too bad for the pleasure it brings!

The car in question made over £20k by the time fees were paid. Considering it had no warranty and wasn’t that tidy an example. Looked very crusty on the subframes for 18000 miles and engine bay didn’t show any love either. Under the circumstances I think this car made plenty of money!! (Not that it deserved it) I know someone who was offered an 07 GT for less than £15k. It was a tidier example.

S2000 prices, like all cars, especially a performance type, are back from where they were. A normal market response to higher costs of living. We all know S2000 prices are very seasonal anyway. A good example will still be desired, but £25k+ can buy you a lot of car today. At the end of the day car will make what someone’s prepared to pay for it. Low mile sub 10,000 mile examples are a very small niche and as such should still command a £25k+ price. GT 100s are a lottery. Big bucks for something that could very easily pop an engine…………..I do admire the pricing bravado from dealers on them. Personally speaking I’d much rather buy an S2000 off its owner directly. That way you can much better assess how it’s been kept.
