Default Head Unit - Recommendations

Hi All,

I know there is plenty of info on head unit replacement and I have followed it to the point where I am at:

1. Connectors bought for Honda > Pioneer conversion
2. Old head unit out
3. New head unit required some rewiring on the DIN connector for the IPOD control box
4. Sized up the space from taking the old head unit out and realised there is naff all room for the pioneer and the IPOD control box. Never mind the Parrot kit (3100) I have to go where the OEM unit was.

So....

Plan is to buy a bluetooth head unit. The stuff above is all old taken out of my old car and can be sold on/sent back.

What I wanted was everything tidy behind the dash out of the way without ripping up interior to hide wires to the glove box (02 S2K).

I have seen a few bluetooth head units (to stream music and phone calls) and wondered if anyone had any experience of any models and the general quality?

Comments welcome

Cheers

A couple of guys have got the Alpine 104BT units and seem happy enough with them.

Why on earth anyone wants or needs to make calls whilst driving and S2000 is a bit beyond me though

It's easy enough to run a cable to the glovebox for your iPod, or simply keep it in the cargo net.

To be honest I am not bothered about the phone call side of it... its just that I have an iPHONE so it kind of does my music and phone calls together...and I had the parrot kit. But can sell it on.

The problems I have is that with the pioneer unit I would need to run power and ground cables to the glovebox. In the glovebox would be the control module, power/ground cables and the ipod cable that connects to the iphone but its approx .5 metre long. Just seemed like a lot of cable to house in the glove box if I couldnt get it behind the dash as well as the module and phone.

The Alpine works with just one cable which charges the Ipod so it's pretty easy I think.

as you'll be taking the ipod with you when you leave the car, you can just slot it into the net on the passenger side if you want.

Failing that, I'm sure some sort of clip is available.

The alpine looks spot on

As done the Pioneer DEH-6100BT.

Where did you run the cable along for your IPOD connection in the glovebox? Under the leather centre console?

I didn't do it, but yes, the centre console is easy to remove and run cables. There is a small hole drilled in the back of the glove box for the cable.

The cable is only just long enough and you'll nee to run it from the glove box to the HU as the HU connector is a lot smaler than the iPod connector.

Actually, if you unbutton the side carpet where it adjoins the top hat on the tranny tunnel, you can also tuck the wires in there.

It's where the aerial coax lives.

Ahh ok will do. But to get the wires into the glove box will require a hole being made?
