Default Head unit / Speakers

I'm looking for advice for replacing the stock headunit and speakers. (it's only taken me 4 years...)

I'm not exactly what you'd call an audiophile - so I've only budgeted

Not very helpful

I have tried using the search on this topic myself and got frustrated and quit.

I am sure there are people on here around that will be able to easily give advice on this so hang in there!

From what I recall Apline was the way forward when I upgraded the Headunit in my first car, and you can get kits to hook up the dash controls.

Not sure on speakers, think I got infinity ones and they sounded great and fit straight in to the doors without any reshaping.

Obviously I've already spent hours reading threads from various searches - hence the Alpine idea I mentioned. But thanks for the input anyway Boulders...

I was just attempting to find out if anyone had installs on a similar budget - and if so - what Ipod ready Alpine head units people are successfully running with Modifry or Countdown interfaces etc.

Anyone care to post what they've got? Or details of any other set ups for that matter?

Interested to hear you have an amplified sub under the passenger seat. It's an option I was considering myself but didn't think the space was big enough. May I ask what model Clarion sub it is? Would you recommend it?

Cheers

You need the new Alpine IDA-X001 Digital Media Receiver!

But that would blow your budget!

Now as soon as I can find someone who has some stock - it's MINE

Sorry GP. Long day at work! We do seem to have the same dozen questions recycled over and over....... Any way have been looking in to upgrading the sounds and was able to have a play with one of these http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-ida...ver-p-5671.html
Sounds fantastic and was very easy to use with an ipod. Was near instant in changing tracks etc.. Will probably be my choice. The only thing is that you don't have a single disc CD in the head unit.

Right - I reckon I'm decided on the 9850Ri now.

Thought briefly about the IDA-X001 but don't think I can justify spending that much more. (to myself let alone 'er indoors)

Just need to choose some speakers now.
I'm hoping the autoleads spacers might increase my options. Anyone used them?

NEuropIL - I've had the Clarion sub under the passenger seat for 3 years now - its the SRV-303 and fits perfectly.
Clarion powered sub
It's exactly what I was looking for - gives nice bass inside the car without sounding
too loud from outside, if you know what I mean.
I think Kenwood and Alpine do a version too - though couldn't tell you if they fit under the seat or not. HTH.

Try Car Audio Direct as you'll also get S2K discount too.

CDE-9850Ri
Genesis Profile II amp
Genesis Component Speakers

I know they sound great cos thats what I've got.

Then think about a sub and enclosure. Try wlaurent (darkside subs) for the enclosure, great quality product and service.

Heres mine
