Obviously I've already spent hours reading threads from various searches - hence the Alpine idea I mentioned. But thanks for the input anyway Boulders...
I was just attempting to find out if anyone had installs on a similar budget - and if so - what Ipod ready Alpine head units people are successfully running with Modifry or Countdown interfaces etc.
Anyone care to post what they've got? Or details of any other set ups for that matter?

Clarion amplified sub I currently have under the passenger seat.
Interested to hear you have an amplified sub under the passenger seat. It's an option I was considering myself but didn't think the space was big enough. May I ask what model Clarion sub it is? Would you recommend it?
Sorry GP. Long day at work! We do seem to have the same dozen questions recycled over and over....... Any way have been looking in to upgrading the sounds and was able to have a play with one of these http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine-ida...ver-p-5671.html
Sounds fantastic and was very easy to use with an ipod. Was near instant in changing tracks etc.. Will probably be my choice. The only thing is that you don't have a single disc CD in the head unit.
Thought briefly about the IDA-X001 but don't think I can justify spending that much more. (to myself let alone 'er indoors)
Just need to choose some speakers now.
I'm hoping the autoleads spacers might increase my options. Anyone used them?
NEuropIL - I've had the Clarion sub under the passenger seat for 3 years now - its the SRV-303 and fits perfectly. Clarion powered sub
It's exactly what I was looking for - gives nice bass inside the car without sounding
too loud from outside, if you know what I mean.
I think Kenwood and Alpine do a version too - though couldn't tell you if they fit under the seat or not. HTH.
