Default headlight

briefly looked at the search but too many posts and no how to's..

- headlight not working, side light + full beam ok
- recently noticed the unit is getting condensation

has anyone done a how to / workthrough for changing the bulb..?
i think there was mention of taking the bumper off for ease..?
for the headlight i also remember reading that condensation is a common occurence, resolve for this to break seal and re-seal headlight unit??

just seeing if this is a mission i could undertake or not..
muchos..

Loftust says:

I think someone tried the seal trick with limited success and ended up melting their headlight there are a few threads explaining all the steps though. Perhaps a longer search than 'briefly' is required

Removing the bumper takes all of 20 minutes, and is the only way to remove the headlight assembly.

The lamp (D2S) is very easy to change with the headlight assembly out too.

There is a complete youtube howto on removing the bumper and headlight and taking headlights to bits.

People who put their headlights in the oven are asking for trouble, a hairdryer is more than capable of softening the glue that holds the lens cover to the black plastic case.

Good link and explains it all step by step.

blimey, looks a little involved, but involved it is considering the cost of a replacement unit!

Both my headlights were fogged up, took them both off, bulbs out, left them on the radiator overnight with th lense pointing down.

Resealed them on the join using silicone and a spatula, no condensation in 3 months.

I woulnt bother splitting the headlights in the oven - theres no silicone visible on mine once fitted.

Aye that cures the fog inside but it all depends how bad the mould and mildew marks on the inside of the plastic are. Splitting headlights is a last resort but it's not difficult, just time consuming.

No idea on that score, they're cheap enough to buy and with the voltage they produce .... i'd not fancy repairing one.

I used the oven when splitting mine, as long as you go steady its fine.

For re-sealing though I guess a hairdryer will be fine as said above.
