Default Headlights for Dinner

Dismantled the bumper, got the headlight out and the HID unit - which was full of water. Headlight has some condensation in it, and hairdryering it hasn't done much, so I am taking it apart to give it a proper drying out, and to get the dead spider out of it....

Currently cooking my O/S headlight in the oven at 225 degrees

And I am bricking myself!!!

4 minutes to go

You think it will be ok?

are they meant to come apart then? thought it was a sealed unit. guess a silicone seal may help keep any water out.

Yes it's well known put them in the oven to open them up (clearing corners in the USA)

Well i got them apart ok, and dried out a treat!

Putting them back together was more difficult Especially so as when i put them back in to heat the old silicon seal, before adding my own sealent and putting them together, i managed to slightly melt the top of the rear part of the unit

So it ended up a little mis-shaped. ah well, got it back on the car and it is a bit off, but it will do as a temp fix until i get a new O/S headlamp now.

You didn't need to split it!

I had this on my old S.

All you had to do was warm it up on a radiator or in the oven (not cook it ) to drive the moisture off. Then seal over the failed seal all round the unit with an epoxy glue!

I did, cos there was also a dead spider in there, and he wouldn't come out no matter which way and how vigorously i shook it!!
