Headrests/perspex inserts
Thanks Pete. Is there no end to the ingenuity of S2000 owners.? This little mod of Ross's is brilliant! I hope to be posting pics (Finally) of my fitted and finished aero screen in the next couple of weeks ! Ross's little mod should compliment it nicely.
I'm speechless at the simplicity and professionalism of it. All I need is the time to do it
I have never bought perspex before, I suppose it can be bought from B&Q ??
Is the perspex easy to cut ?
Did you make a template from the rollover hoop ?
Does the thickness of the perspex cause problems when clipping the cover back ?

Questions questions questions.
Right - The perspex is easily available from your local DIY store though you mostly have to buy largish sheets ( I stole some of my Mum who uses it for modelling things) I used some about 2 or 3mm thick this presents no problem to pushing the back of the headrest back on again, but also means it is thick enough not to rattle in the wind.
I started out making a paper template by drawing around the headrest back you remove and then fitting it and trimming it to size. This was just out of paper. Then I used a modelling type band (?) saw (thanks again Mum) to cut it. The saw is kind of like a jig saw but fitted to a small bench, a jig saw would work fine and may even cut the corners easier. Then having ensured I cut a slightly oversized perspex shape I went back out to the car with a sanding block and sanded it down to size. Easy!
Oh and to remove the headrest back I just put my fingers under the outside bottom corner and gently pulled, no tools required.
As for the wind deflector - no template made yet, need to find thicker perspex to fit the stock mechanism. Plus I got rolled into a golf competition day yesterday so was kind of distracted.

Looking forward to seeing CT's upgrade!!!

Well having been involved with son Graham on this, it gives you a new respect for people who design these mods. It's a lot more work than you might think. The problem with the aeroscreen; if you want it to fold anyway, is the hinges. Plastic is the obvious cheapest solution although the injection moulding set up must have cost Honda a fortune. I can well understand why people have opted for using the existing hinges and replacing the screen. We decided to go the hinged route rather than take the other option and have a fixed screen. Basically this screen will have two machined, nicely contoured aluminium hinges. The screen will hinge flat if required, either forwards; or backwards in orde rnot it to interfere with the function of the secret compartment. We've gone for the maximum height we can get without having to fold it when putting the top up and down. It will utilise the two fixing holes which are visible inside the secret compartment lid. The screen will rotate in the hinges on a spindle with countersunk depressions. there will be two spring loaded ball bearings inserted into the bottom of each hinge my means of a hand press and those ball bearings will locate in the depressions to snap the screen into the upright position.
The screen itself will be 5mm carbon glass. It just needs then to be road tested to make sure there are no vibrations at speed, and that there is no tendency for the screen to fold under air/wind pressure. There shouldn't be a problem but.... the best laid plans and all that!
Well, I think I understand what you are doing, but when are we going to see pictures, even a work in progress would be cool!! Perhaps give me some ideas for my version!
Where did you get the carbon glass from I have never heard of it, but I assume it will be less brittle than perspex or straight glass??

Ross.
I'll have to see Graham to find out where he got the carbon glass from( I think that's what it is, but don't hold me to it) I think it's the safety none-shatter stuff. The problem with cutting this sort of stuff with hand tools is that the heat generated causes the edge to melt so you need to spray some sort of coolant on it during cutting to keep the heat down. I think xviper managed to do his by rigging up some sort of water drip. It's a lot easier on a Cin C machine where you have a choice of coolants to spray on the work, and the edge is going to be much neater anyway. I can't show you a work in progress as Graham has it, and is under considerable pressure from his old man to get the job finished in time for the Supermeet.
If for any reason we can't make the meet I'll post pics anyway. Looking forward to seeing what you're doing Ross!!! Those headrest inserts are a stroke of genius!

Cedric, I have no idea whether this is the case or not so it's just something I thought of.....
If you're going to design this for marketing to others do you think it worth checking whether the 00/01 hood fold and the 02 hood fold are the same with respect to fouling your aeroscreen when its down?
