Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

I've read on here that its advised o change the oil for mineral oil whilst running in?!? I mentioned this to the dealer (Avondale Stratford) who told me that all Honda's are run in ???? Which I DON't believe for one minute?! I have had a quick scant through the owners manual and its says its not recommended to change the oil until the required oil change at i think from memory 5k ish or 6months. Whats the general consensus?

BTW to add to more confusion, the dealer has hand written on the service manual that the first service is at 12,500k or 1yr? Whereas the owners handbook states that the oil should be change at around 5k? 6months.

I know its very easy to get caried away with all this stuff, but as its a new car I would like to start as I mean to carry on doing everything by the book?

May 11th Meet sounds like fun. You'll have to post the details so I know where to go. I'll keep my eyes peeled in the midlands for any other S2k's it might be one of you?!
You won't be able to miss mine Reg P1LSY

I have so many questions already...... Sorry to keep waffling on. has anybody else got an annoying groan/vibration sound coming from the transmission area between the driver and the engine? It kind of sound like it maybe a heatshield or something vibrating. This only happens at low revs 2-3k maybe when I am labouring the engine as I'm still getting used car?

Enough from me no doubt you'll be hearing from me again?

Moff, I was also subscribed to audi-sport.net with my S3. Your on there are'nt you? Recky the nick

later

Alan

Alan,

First service is definitely at 9,000 miles or one year. Your dealer is talking out of his arse (nothing new there. - it seems to be a "feature" of Honda dealers..... )

First oil change is recommended at 4,500 IF the car is driven in "extreme climates". I don't think ours qualifies as extreme, so it's not really necessary. If you want to err on the side of caution, however, you can get it done then.

Common wisdom has it that mineral oil should be used up to the first service, then fully synth thereafter.

As for running in, my dealer told me that strictly speaking it is not necessary. Nevertheless, generally accepted practice is to keep it below 6,000 rpm for the first 600 miles and then step it up by 1,000 rpm for each 100 miles after that - a bit of mechanical sympathy can only be good for the bedding in process and the car's long-term well-being.

There's a separate thread about the May 11 Midlands Pub Meet - keep an eye on that for confirmation of venue. As things stand, it looks like it will be the Crabmill in Preston Bagot, just outside Henley in Arden.

Hi P1LSY

Got my new car a week ago, have done 1100 miles already, could not wait to experience 9000 rpm so drove to Wales and back twice to see my girlfriend.

The growl when the VTEC comes in was worth it.

Happy motoring

Nick,

My car is not brand new, its on a 52 plate with 11,000 miles on the clock, so theres no worry for hitting the vtec.

checked all four corners, and i'm glad to find that theres no spacers left in the springs. but i have noticed a a slight click in the gear stick ever time i put it in 3rd, it goes in quite smoothly apart from a slight click. also i've noticed while cruising in 4th, 5th, or 6th, the gear shakes a bit, its not really bad but just shakes abit rather that sitting solid still. is this normal?

but apart from these little bits, the car is near perfect, and i can say that i definately made the right choice, buying the S rather than the boxter 2.7

The vibration is perfrectly normal and is the result of such a short gear linkage
