Default Help !

Went to see a AP1 2001 S2000.

Everything is perfect about it, the hood, service history (full Honda) low mileage etc.

However there is a wierd ass rattle coming from it.

When the hood was down the rattle was constant. when up it was intermittent.

When driving it completely goes away. On moving off from a standstill it comes and goes.

To me it sounds like a heatshield or something rattling, however with the hood down it got me thinking why it was constantly there.

Can anyone shed any light as if its nothing major, I will be purchasing it very soon.

Thanks

Are you American?

Where is the noise coming from or do you not know?, hard to diagnose over the web TBH.

If its from the engine could be a number of things, TCT, heatshield etc.

Hellaass.

Maybe the cat. Is it rev related, between 2000 and 4000rpm?

It's only there on idle. It goes away once you move off.

Get it on a ramp and give the cat a whack you'll hear it rattle and check heat sheilds.

If it's the cat, knock a few hundred off the price.

Will do. Can't grasp why the hood being down made the noise constantly occur ?

Could be the hooks on the soft top roof latches.
They always rattle with the roof down.
When its up and locked they also rattle a bit if they are worn, as they probably are.
Put the roof down and get an elastic band around them, or soemone to hold them.
