Default Help ! Alarm

Car is in the garage and the alarm is not set as this drains the battery- only use her at weekends, garage is alarmed so no worries.

Sitting here catching up on posts and the alarm goes-off

Wife in a panic thinking she's done something shouldn't "I didn't touch it I only went to the freezer" I press various buttons on the key-fob but nothing.

I try putting key in door = nothing. Try key in ignition = nothing- just very dim lights.

So I've disconnected the battery to stop the din and put the battery on charge.

Its a Honda alarm, UK car.

Does the alarm go off if the battery dies even if its not set ? Any suggestions ? Once battery charged do just connect up again and go or do I have to reset anything thingamyjigs ?

Thanks
John

You should have bought an import from Europe ..... they didn't have the POS alarm.

I think the alarm should have a battery backup if its a cat 1 alarm. Just guessing though.

Some of them go off when the battery gets low, and unfortunately it gets to the point where it wont respond to the key fob. I think the alamr presumes its being stolen (disconnected) and goes off.

I used to get it all the time with my parents Golf when I lived at home. How is it they always go off at 4 in the morning - and you nacker your ears trying to disable the siren!

Either disable the siren or keep it on charge...

New battery might help, but they don't last as well as a regularly used one.

Yeah sounds like the battery is dieing, alarms are designed to go off when the power drops below a certain point so potential theives can't just cut the power to stop the alarm going off. My old car used to do it all the time, thankfully I have a Euro import so no such trouble now

Thanks, more or less what I thought.

Spoke to the dealer today who suggests I call Honda Assist out and get a referal to a dealer for a new battery - under warranty.

Apparently its not a good idea to get the car going and just turn up and ask for a battery, best to get someone out under Home Start and take it from there

Left the car on charge last night, and connected up this morning.

As a result I have found the cause of my problem - I left the interior map light on since Sunday night

All works well now - Thanks
