Default Help on importing...

Hello everyone, I've been following the group for a few weeks now, took my first S2000 for a spin on Saturday and I loved it.. I decided that my Z3 2.8 is due for a change so I am in the process of ordering my nice new S2000 (silver/black) sigh I know from Holland. I was lucky and got a 2002 Silverstone that is RHD that was a canceled order for March delivery.

My question is perhaps a simple one, but advice would be appreciated, has any one brought back a car from Rotterdam / Holland, and what was the best route for the least amount of hassle? Anything else I should be aware of, such as the best way to get there etc. I'm based in Kent so all idea's are welcome.

Thanks,

Nick.

PS Anyone want to buy a mint Z3 2.8 Montreal Blue 99/T with 20k on the clock?

Which dealer are you getting it from? I would have the dealer deliver it to Harwich or Dover - whichever is nearer to you and then drive it home - as for insurance I called Admiral and told them that I would need insurance for a car I will be buying but have not registered it yet - they told me that they could insure you using just the chassis number but I would have to inform them of the registration number as soon as it is registered.

By the way, what's the name of the dealer you are getting the car from?

Hello,

I saw a posting for a dealer in Holland called Ferry at Verhagen Auto's, he was very nice, spoke great English, and we did the deal this morning. I was very luck with the car and delivery dates. I am looking to insure through Admiral 850 which I thought was quite reasonable. How much are you paying to have the car shipped to Dover? I know that you can Pre Register your car, DVLA don't like it but can't stop you. I imported my BMW, and since then Pre Registering was introduce I believe.

If I remember, Ferry said that it would cost about 385 euros or something to have it shipped to Harwich or Hull but it would be more expensive to Dover...If you don't mind me asking, how much are you paying?

The final price was 26,459 euro's including the export plates, PID, fuel etc. He originally mis quoted me at 600 odd euro cheaper but hey whats am I gonna do, getting the car in March which is nice... Are you collecting the car or getting it delivered to the UK? Got a nice forward curreny purchase rate of 1.6157 to buy anytime before April.

It sounds like you struck lucky getting that cancelled order

How much are you asking for the Z3? I know my brother still quite fancies one....

I'm getting the car delivered to Harwich - I'll pick t up from there.

That's a really good price you got!!!

I am paying 28,699 for a Black/red but with hard top, front spoiler, side strakes and floor mats - the total is 32,593 euros which is not bad at all...

Anyway, does your UK spec come with AC as standard?

I just got an email from Ferry (Honda Dealer) - he said that the Dutch domestic model which is LHD has AC as optional, however, the RHD UK spec has AC as standard! Phew! That's a relief!!!!

Check that your insurer will cover you to drive the car in Holland, when I tried to do this through Belgium I was told they would only cover the car once it had arrived in the UK, hence I had it transported. One option would be to ask the garage if they could deliver it to the Ferry Port, that way you would only have to risk driving it onto the ferry.

In reply to the price of the Z3 car, It's got a few extra's including 6CD Changer in the boot, Wind Deflector, MTEC Suspension upgrade (stiffens the body apparently), it got the usual power hood, leather, metalic paint, electric seats/windows/mirrors etc. I have had it from new and it lives in the garage at night, just had first major service last week, came through with no problems at all. I would be looking at 17k for a quick sale now.

My advice on BMW Z3's is buy early in the year, come March everyone wants a massive premium for them, and a 17k car becomes 19k, but that then the sun does make people crazy.
