Help Please
HI
Just looking for a bit of help really.....I suspect its my tensioner, but thought Id see if the experts out there might be able to help.
I am getting knocking noise and what looks to be as if my alternator belt is slipping. It looks to me as if the tensioner pulley isn't spinning (that's if it is meant to spin)and the belt is coming off because of it.
Heres a video of the noise

Any help would be very much appreciated
Cheers
Ricky.

Tensioner bearing on it's way out maybe ? I think you can get new bearings as it's a standard size (rather than buying the whole new tensioner from Honda for lots of money) The belt still looks within tolerance (indicator mark on the tensioner lining up with the riased bit) but fairly worn so I'd replace that too.
Internet diagnosis can be waaaaay out. A bit more detail is required for everyone to advise i think, but again could be way out (so take opinions with a pince of salt, including mine)
First impression for me is that it sounds like a rod bearing or the pretensioner.
Have you checked the oil level/kept it topped up?
It usually no4 that throws the bearing, can you make out if its coming from the from or rear of the engine?
Does it come from the top end or bottom end?
Is it constant, while hot/cold, intermittant?

Hey Chaps
Thanks for your replies.
Sorry fault is a bit vague, I dont believe its coming from the engine (block). it sounds like its coming from something connected to where the belt travels. It happens when cold/hot but earlier when I put some throttle on, I could see the belt moving and it now has moved over the tensioner now which leads me to think something thats meant to spinning isnt. Also intermittently over the past few weeks the belt has squeeled, which again I probably should have mentioned.

The belt on the S2000 is pretty much one of the easiest jobs you can ever do on an S2000.
Im pretty sure you use one spanner to pull the tensioner loose and then the belt can be whipped off. Then its a case of spinning the various parts of the belt system and feel for any obvious rumbles or noises from the bearings. Like the others said its difficult to tell what the noise is but at at least you can start with the easy parts.
Just be wary of removing the belt and starting the engine for long periods, the waterpump runs off of that belt so you can start the car for a few seconds to see if the noise has gone but leaving the engine running for any length of time risks building up excess heat.

hey guys
thank you for your help... I have changed the belt and as people say its pretty easy.....but in my case it hasn't solved the problem. the tensioner gauge looks great but the belt keeps slipping off the pulley. I suspect maybe the bearings have gone in my pulley. can anyone suggest somewhere to get replacement bearings for the tensioner pulley?
cheers again

Did you try and spin the tensioner while you had the belt off ? did it make any noise or wobble ?
I'm lead to believe that the bearing is 6203 double-sealed - from this thread here https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/916...ensioner-assy/
Alternatively you can ask Si@Hendy for a price for the pulley kit - I think the part no is 31180-pcx-003 from this thread here https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/794045-idler-pulley/
which also suggests that it might be the idler pulley rather than the tensioner pulley - so check both and order what you need

like I say I hope I am wrong. Good luck
