Default High mileage and performance

Hi,
I was having a discussion with a friend of mine regarding old muscle cars , I'm just intrigued my S has nearly done 95k, does the performance Deteriorate over time with high mileage?

ie 0-60 etc?

I was thinking of getting a de cat to counteract this?

thanks

How does a cat counteract this?

(I know nothing about anything mechanical btw )

Well correct me if i'm wrong, if the performance has suffered with age then the de cat will free a bit of performance up, bringing the s back inline with the standard performance.

Maybe i'm talking crap but some legend will come along and correct me

I presume your aware of de cats etc.

cheers

My 16v Golf only got properly fast when it got up to 100k miles. My s2000 has 77k and is just as fast as any other I've driven.

If it's been properly looked after it should run well up to 150 - 200k it is a Honda after all

Yes, engines will deteriorate over time and power (or more specifically engine efficiency) will reduce.

This effect is reducing with modern materials and manufacturing (i.e. improved quality), but still happens. Proper care and servicing also fundamental to good high mileage performance.

The important bit though, is that I'd be suprised if you could actually notice the potential power shortfall

AFAIK De-catting doesn't free up much extra power on the S. The stock system is set up to get the maximum available. There is little you can do to an S2000 short of supercharging or turbocharging or spending mountains of cash to improve power.
