Thumbs up How can I protect this on the dash?

When at Euromeet Shigeru Uehara kindly signed my passenger side dashboard, using silver paint type pen.

When cleaning the dash just now I noticed a small smudge where something has touched it, it appears that this smudging will continue without some kind of protection.

I'm not sure what I might be able to cover the signature with to protect it - clear laquer or something??

Anyone got any ideas?

How about getting a flap of material that is similar to the dash and stick it just above the signature so that when dropped it covers the signature so protecting it from direct sunlight and direct touch

I have seen something similar on a 911 RS which was signed by Ferry Porsche except it was on the rear body work. The guy had some sort of magnetic material to put over the sig when not on display.

Failing that take your dash out, cut the sig section out and have cast into a solid clear laminate material to then stick back onto a new dash

You could test it first on something else, but try a thin coat of clear laquer from halfords spray can.

I have done a similar thing on a reg plate with black marker, it didnt run but smudge but became ever so slightly disorted.

I think laquer is the best option but then part of your dash will be shiney and I was just thinking I hope it doesn't melt the dash?

You can get brush on laquer actually so you could get a fine brush and just laquer the exact bit he has signed i.e. just the writing so it will make the writing stand out and you won't have a big shiney patch on your dash!

Thanks for the suggestions folks. I managed to clean it up a bit with ispopropyl. Luckily that was the only alcohol involved It seems ok now but I would like to protect it.

I like your suggestion martin, I could just paint over the signature with that. Might have to nip to boots tomorrow
