Import dilemma
My MC Blue is due in the country within 2-3 weeks but is not going to be taxed and registered until 1st March.
I have to pick the car up from the port at Harwich and not sure the best way to go about it. Can I legally drive the car to a place of storage if my insurance will cover me?
My fiance has inquired through the police and also the DVLA and both say it is ilegal to drive.
I am confused as I have heard that many people have driven without tax and a registration plate.
If I can get some trade plates, will this be enough?
Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Later.
Lee.

The chances of being stopped are *very* small.
That's bull! It's not illegal at all. You should call the VRO local to you and ask them to send you the import pack and first registration docs. I remember reading a FAQ section and it stated that it is perfectlt legal to drive the car from the place of purchase to your home without registration and plates.
It sounds as though you have purchased the car from Verhagen - did he charge you for transport plates? If he did, it will be fine.
I picked up my car from Ealing as I didn't want to drive the car from Harwich - It cost me

You are allowed to drive it home or to a garage without plates, as long as it is insured. Once you get it to its initial destination though, you should get it registered and plated before you drive it. You are not allowed to drive it "while you get around to registering it. officer".
Good luck, Wyatt
