Default import limiter

whilest replacing my starter button i found a little black box,it was cable tie to the loom. It's the converter from kph to mph as my car is a import but it still has the limiter on it, there are some simple wiring instructions on te back of the box,all the wire's are ired into the loom apart from 1 a yellow wire which on the back of the box it says "YEL Limiter out) its just been cut short and taped to another wire. does anybody know if that should be connected and if so where and would it take the limmiter off ??? thanks andy.

So your car is limited to about 120mph?

Can you select between mph and kph on your speedo?

Converting the clock I/P signal and removing the limiter can be a tedious affair. There are units up for grabs from a Southampton company on eBay that achieve both.

FWIW, I put UK clocks in mine, and fitted an Apexi RSM

I have two. One for the speedo, and one for the ECU (that does the limiting). The simplest way to de-limit would be to interrupt the speed sensor signal going into the ECU in the passenger footwell and connect it to a second speed converter. That way you're limited to 180mph, not 180kph, which isn't generally a problem.

Fitting UK clocks would solve the speedo problem, but you'd still be limited because of the JDM ECU. And I think fitting a UK ECU creates a nightmare of alarm problems.

Not sure why there'd be a "limiter out" wire on your converter; perhaps that's for other other cars.

Does that make any sense to anybody else? Or is it just me?

Does your speedo read mph, or does it like mine, read m/h with the k disconnected?

Out of interest how much does that cost? I plan to drive to france a back a few times as the folks there live so k/ph would come in handy, and my oddometer is still in km's and I'd like that number to be roughly 0.6 times smaller. Plus the importer has just dabbed the k out on the current dash and it bothers me.

I bought a HKS SLD from Evasive for my JDM S2K. It has removed the speed limiter from the ECU, but the clocks still stop at 180kmph.
