Default Imports & running in etc

Can someone briefly list the downsides to buying an import? I`m thinking along the lines of a European import (from Bob Gerard or similar).
A few questions I have:

Is the warranty the same as a UK spec model?
Is the top speed limit the same as uk model?
I`m aware of the lower resale value but I intend to keep probably until the car dies anyway.

What are the other negatives?

Regarding running in. I have read the FAQ and wondering if the running-in information is still up to date? My local dealer said that you just get in and drive it hard from day one and there is no need for a service before 9kmiles these days and he didn`t recommend a 6km use of mineral old before changing to synthetic. He mentioned that Honda have down a lot of research and there really is no need to run a car in now.
What is your take on the above? I never did buy the car from them and will now probably end up buying new - preferably at an import price.

Thanks

you get 30,000 miles less warranty but still 3 years
Top speed is limited by the engine rather than some electronic wotsit so it's the same.
Lower resale value is offset considerably by the fact that you pay 4k less so of course it will blimmin well be cheaper resale

No other negatives as far as I'm aware, everyone I know that's used BG has been REALLY satisfied, friend of mine got one a couple of months ago and he was really happy.

Your dealer is a tit, just like mine was. Run it in no VTEC for at least 650 miles but makes sure you vary the style of driving to bed the car in. Also get your oil changed at 4000 miles or earlier. Change to fully Synth at your first service. Don't buy demos they get the crap beaten out of them.

Your dealer is telling you the opposite of what Honda tell you in the manual

BG are very good, great price and service.

The only downside I see is with a Jap import, not Euro.

Others will disagree

It`s a pity we have to trust the "tits" to for servicing when in warranty at least.

At least the dealer helped me to decide on colour and whether the GT would be right for me .

Thanks

Do it! Bought mine from BG and picked it up last Monday. Their service is exemplary. What Honda dealers should strive for. The couple of dealers I spoke to were idiots. "Oh, you only get a two year warranty", "Oh, you can't buy a hard top for a Roadster to fit later"..... tsk tsk.

I think all your questions have been answered already. The only possible negative that you could think of (maybe two).....

1. You have to go to BG to pick-up..... but then you get to drive it home and start that running-in period straight away with a decent bit of mileage. Besides which, who cares when you're getting such a great deal?!

2. If they haven't got your colour combo in stock, you could be in for a long wait. If they've got it in you'll be up-and-running in a couple of weeks. From point of order to pick-up it only took me eighteen days.

As for breaking-in, BG will give you advice that is more conservative than Honda - probably. If you're keeping the car for a long time, why not just stick to it? You'll be through the thousand miles in no time and still have many years of enjoyment ahead.

Top down today for me. The sun's just beginning to poke out!

Service and sales are two different things, locate a good one, I currently drive 45 miles to mine, actually he drives 90 because they pick up my car from the house!

Funster,

BG are delivering mine to me over a distance of 89 miles - for an acceptable charge of course - next Fri

They do seem to only pre-order colours that they know they can shift which does limit the choice a little. Bermuda Blue wouldn't have been my first choice if MCB was still available.
