Default Insurance & "modifications"

Hi

I've just renewed my car insurance via Direct Line (actually I took out a new internet policy, as this was a couple of hundred quid cheaper).

The new policy is as follows: 32yrs, 1 x SP50, 12K / year, garaged, 4yrs NCD, Protected NCD, etc -

Sounds a bit kneejerk on their part.

Best not mention your alloy wheels

Thing is, I've got an AUS CAI waiting to be fitted, and I'm not sure that I could afford the extra

Chris, the CAI shouldn't have any impact since it's not performance-enhancing. Well, not enough to mention, anyway.

Craig Armstrong who posts here from time to time spoke to Tesco and got them to add it to his policy at no additional cost since it did not affect the bhp output. If they want to charge you, argue the toss with them and explain what it does.

Chris

I have the the OEM kit as well, I told my insurance about them and they wanted to charge me extra. I argued with them saying that they are Dealer options and so covered under the three year waranty. They agreed and wrote them down on my policy. I even have the 6 disc player and that is also covered at no extra cost.

The company is Churchill, the one with the stupid dog.

Also if you have the GT make sure it is called S2000 GT on the policy, just in case you need to claim.

Ouch,

i would argue a toss with this as all the parts are oem and none performance enhancing so should not matter on a policy.

the only mods i would think to increase a policy, would be Susp mods, air filters, full exh systems.

I managed to get eagle star to let me have K&N filter, full magnex system and tinted windows on the Cav gsi2000 at no cost.

You could try green light insurance as they deal with modified cars alot. Rice rockets do have some use then

I made it quite clear that none of the mods are performance enhancing, and were installed when I bought the car. I will try calling again - it may depend on the operators frame of mind at the time.

err, your mods should affect your premium,

I thought insurance premiums were based on likelihood of it being nicked as much as power,

Therefore, joyriders have a choice of two S's, one bog standard (not sure I can say that about our cars), and the other is your car with extras on.

Same alarm system, which would you try and nick for a spin?

If you don't think your mods make it more attractive to thieves, I'd ask Honda for the money back..

Chris

If you can, go to another Insurance Co. It would seem that DL look better until they try and add on

Are we saying i should tell the insurance that my car came with the dealer 6 CD autochanger? because it's a mod?

Do we get charged more because we choose a particular colour? do we get a discount for going for yellow? because they get nicked less than any other colour, and not because there are less off them.

Any parts taken from the dealer options lists are not Mods, and therefore shouldn't be charged extra for.
