Model line up goes something like

S4 2.7 (B5)- 2.7 V6 30v biturbo - 254/265bhp
RS4 (B5) - 2.7 V6 30v biturbo - 380bhp

S4 4.2 (B6) - 4.2 V8 40v Naturally Aspirated - 344bhp

S4 4.2 (B7) - 4.2 V8 40v Naturally Aspirated - 344bhp (Planned)
RS4 (B7) - 4.2 V8 40v Naturally Aspirated - 420 bhp

S6 (C6)- 4.2 V8 32v Naturally Aspirated - 340bhp
RS6 / RS6 plus (C6) - 4.2 V8 40v biturbo - 450bhp / 4.2 V8 40v biturbo - 480b
I guess it was the B5 RS4 Avant (the RS4 of that age was only sold in Avant form). I'm sure I was told it was 420+ bhp. It was a turbo and I think they could be chipped quite well though. Either that or we were lied to.

Whichever one it was, it WAS quicker than a Ferrari 355. it was a supercar experience and both myself and my brother were on it. On the same stretch of tarmac we both reached higher vMax's in the RS4 compared to the 355. And we had to brake earlier in the RS4 because the brakes in that were rubbish.

RS4 is out of that budget people! (Don't you just love car forums )

And whilst were about options that don't fit the bill...

See my Sig! Save yourself ~12k for a couple of nice holidays and fuel.

(p.s if you want a performance estate, it isn't going to be cheap to run!)

OK, I'll stop wibbling about a car I want and suggest a car that's actually reasonable and in budget. I'm not vouching for the company as I've never used them, but it should give you an idea of what's out there.

Or a Subaru Forrester.

Newer ones are very rapid and have a high driving position...with all the performance of a scooby !!

They look good in black.
