Default Ipod into centre console?

Hi all,

I will by buying an Alpine head unit tomorrow to enable me to use my Ipod in the car, i've removed my stock HU. However what I want to do is to put my Ipod inside the centre armrest, and therefore run the ipod connection cable from the back of the stereo under the gear stick and then into the console. Like this:-

I've read Matt's guide, but its not really too clear on how he removed the centre consloe to run the wire through, can anyone help??

I have mine in the same place and it was fairly straightforward. If you pull up on the centre console from the back - the leather bit at the bottom of your pic and work your way along to the front you can loosen the whole top up. It feels a bit scary to begin with.

I then drilled a hole in the rigid plastic at the front of the console - this can be hidden in future by the ashtray.

The wire then fed under the front of the passanger side of the gear surround, ran along and in through the hole I prepared earlier. You need to watch that it doesn't snag on the handbrake. Then simply snap the top back on from the front.

It's far easier to put it on the glove box and clip it under the elastic in the lid!

It just needs a small hole in the back to allow the cable through and removal of the panel behind the seat to help route the cable under the edge of the center console.

he using a cradle though not just a wire. Also if its in the centre console you can just about see it and change tracks (when stopped of course)

Here are some pics of my install for my GPS (bluetooth) which sits in the compartment which might help.

I had to lead the power cable back from under the wheel/HU and also the aerial extension for it.

If you prise off the plastic cover, and lift it at the back you can raise it enough up the handbrake to do what you need to do - there is plenty of room under the vinyl trim (pull lugs out from the side of the tunnel) to run a small cable.

Wow, you lot go to a lot of effort

Since you never need to look at the Ipod when using the Alpine HU, mine is just hidden away.

The cable runs from the back of the HU to the side of the passenger seat. I have a rubber cover on the Ipod to protect it and it fits comfortably between the seat and centre console.

The cable is hidden in the side netting and it is all very discreet. No need to drill anywhere.

Buy an I-trip from the web, no drilling involved
