Default Issues typical to S2000?

I've read many many postings here relating to some degree of recalciterance between gears (1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd) - particularly until fully warm - AND tendency to ALMOST stall when setting off from standstill WITHOUT blipping the throttle a bit first before starting to disengage the clutch.

Indeed, I asked Chris of CG about both of these issues when he and I drove my car recently and he said my gearbox felt pretty average for the S and also that the almost-stalling-tendency was also typical for the car. On top of that, this is my fourth Honda S2000 and all have had the same issues to some extent or another.

Put simply, do you agree or disagree??

Mike

yeah....you just have to make positive changes and give it a bit of welly off the lights. bikes are exactly the same; maybe it's a consequence of having a high revving engine :-)

I think it is evident on many but not all.

My car will not try to stall when pulling away but sometimes when you come to a sstandstill and depress teh clutch the engine will nearly stall.

My gears are totally fine once warm but a bit notchy when cold especially 1st to 2nd.

Absolutley agree.
I've tightened my throttle cable as i thought it might be causing a problem pulling away, but its still nearly the same.

I didnt think it would be a car with such a sensitive biting point!

As for the gearbox, mines fine though i'll look forward to something happening one day!

The flywheel is relatively light.

That's why the engine revs up so quickly when you blip it, which makes gearchanging a delight.

The corollary is, it doesn't store a great deal of rotational energy.

The Prelude has a heavier flywheel, but the transverse engine torque reaction counters it, to a degree. So it just makes upchanges slower.

If you would like a tamer S2000, try fitting a hydraulic engine damper.

I wouldn't agree with the comments regarding the gears. I would say there is a definate difference between the way the gears "go in" when the box is hot and when it's cold. But I wouldn't say there is a reluctance for the gears to engage when selecting them.

Also, I've never noticed a tendancy for the car to stall from a standing start. Maybe it's just the way I drive?? I have, on a couple occasions, had the car bog down from a standing start when lifting the cluch too quickly and not giving enough revs. But that felt more like a slow start than a tendancy to stall.

My gears are fine, but I have noticed she tries to stall If not enough revs are given from the lights, but yesterday this stopped after I took the airbox lid off, which may mean the purchase of a K&N , hmmm.
