Default It's $hitty in there!

Whilst waiting for bits to turn up yesterday I started fiddling. I know - it only leads to trouble

Well I decided to clean out the throttle body using some isopropanol (alcohol )

How $hitty is it in there!

Afte about 20 mins I was still wiping out a black tar like substance

Bear in mind this is an 04 car with 20k miles on it and it used no oil. I can only assume it is the emissions system venting oil laden air in the the intake to burn it off - I think it does that

She runs and idles fine no issues. So I am presuming it is normal.

My question - is there a product out there I can spray in to the throttle that will clean this up?

Yeah, you can spray clutch cleaner or something similar in, but it's strongly advised that you do it with the TB off the car. You don't want all that guff going all the way through the engine.

I advised Neil (bassoctopus) to use Wynns Carb and intake cleaner. If you ask him he might still have the full instructions i PM'd him. Makes a difference to the throttle response and gives better MPG.

I was hoping to be lazy and not have to strip it off the car to do it. Do you mean carb cleaner

You can do it with the car running, it will just get munched up Speak to Nick Graves, he's done it I think. You just need a small pipe to allow you to stuff it inbetween the intake pipe and TB and spray away. You will get a lot of shit out the back though

On another note, all that has come through the crank breather pipe. You can now see how MAP sensors become gummed up with all that vapour going through. Oil catch can is a good mod. Excess oil coming through the intake can increase detonation somewhat.

Its what i said isnt it, dumbass Wynns, purple spray can in Halfords ect.

Heres the info i gave Neil.

Take air box lid off, clean your filter element (few sharp taps on the floor and a brush up will do (i fitted a new one because the Spoonish intake sucks the dirt up) remove the rubber hose connected to the air filter, IIRC just the one screw on the ring to do this. I used an old towel and liberally sprayed the inside of this hose and then feed the towel through to give it a clean, then do the intake. You can do it with the car running or not its up to the individual, i did it with it off first, open the butterfly and liberally spray the cleaner in and all around the intake (there will be a ring of dirt where the butterfly seats) and then give it a good clean with the towel. I had the towel handy for any excess that may run back out. Then start the car (it may take a while depending on how much you sprayed in) when its running fine, i kept opening the butterfly a bit and sprayed more cleaner in, so it goes right in and gives the valves a clean too. Pretty sure i then turned it off and gave it a big spray again to soak in and then started and reved it a bit to make sure everything was shifted.

Then i used the cleaner on the throttle cable and mechanism and tightened up any slack.

Yes, all Hondas require regular clean outs. Makes the throttle action smoother & the engine run sweeter. Cleans the idel air valve, helping idling too.

Just remove the rubber intake, stick a T shirt under the TB to catch the crap & squirt copious carb cleaner in there. Wipe put with a tissue.

Don't worry about all that shit going down its gizzard. Back of the valves probably need cleaning, & the 'Lude & NSX have dual-length tract butterflies that need a clean too.

Starting's a bit like a 400,000 mile DI Transit afterwards, but it soon stops smoking & settles down again.
