Apparently police drivers get involved in this kind of accident regularly. They're taught to anticipate all the time. They do anticipate and hit the car in front in circumstances like these!

Bad luck, do get it checked thoroughly.

Yeah, I've got that T shirt too.

It teaches one to look ahead before engaging the clutch.

Glad you got off so lightly, but get it checked for hidden damage.

Wow, how many people have made this mistake! I have done it too about 5 years ago!

I hit the back of a woman as well (no offence). She started going, I looked to the right, saw a car, but it was quite far away, she slammed on and I slammed in, I was fuming.
My fault of course, and cost

It's a thing you only do once....

I did it when I had first passed my test - I spent a whole summer working to pay off my dad who put the money up to fix the old dear's Metro that I hit.

Yep... been there. Doubt that'll make you feel any better though

I recall being totally ar$ed off at the sheer pointless nature of the expense... the other stuff I could have done etc (sorry, I'm not helping, am I)

You'll have forgotten it in 6 months.

I'm guilty too!

I also went into the back of a woman driver, seems there's a pattern emerging here.......... Of course, its not our fault you understand!!!!

Whilst we're in confession mode... yep, me too about 10 years ago

The woman I hit admitted she'd only had the car a couple of weeks, and wasn't particularly confident with it yet - don't think I did anything to help her confidence

A long time ago, my mother did it using my father's company Cortina. Made a bit of a mess of it.

She got out and gave other driver verbal for slow-wittedness. Turns out he was a DCI in the Met.

He was quite understanding, though, since apparently he'd done exactly the same himself the week before!

The other side of the coin of this and in order to not be 'the other party' i.e hit up the backside at a roundabout, always try to be sure about gaps, commit and pull away becos u can bet if u commit then stop the same thing will happen to you (i.e. you'll get hit up the arse).

I saw a better variation of this, a real classic, where a dude in a mondeo was stopped in a line of traffic behind a Transit van. The van pulled off as if the traffic queue was going to move off, but he was only really pulling up to the stopped guy in front of him, but he did it in such convicted way that Mondeo man thought the van was really moving off some distance and he took off and ploughed right into the back of the suddenly stopping Transit. I did laugh.........until the 2 big dudes got out of their Transit and I thought I was going witness this Mondeo dude have a car jack emerging from somewhere the sun don't shine. They took a look at their van (no damage), got back in and drove off leaving the mondeo with a nice scuffed up front. It was a very nice MY03 model too.....OUCH!
