I have to admit I ain't a '100%' kinda guy, not gonna throw it around like a pro! As long as it won't affect it too much I'd like the benefit of less unsprung weight. Wonder if anyone has done it before...

Don't forget tyres for 17" wheels will be lighter. If you're staying at same rolling radius and tread width.

You sure about that?

I thought they were heavier because they have to be stronger.

I remember Nick Graves saying he thought the <04 was a bit underdamped with the lighter wheels, and if they've designed the dampers for the 04 with those big heavy wheels in mind it'll be worse.

Doesn't sound like SiCr would notice the difference.

Will be no good match

BestMotoring tryed this -> result MY04 has a different suspension geometry!

cheers

BTW: I'am looking for JDM 16" BBS Rims

My neighbours have a Megane with wheel trims. That's what I think of every time I see MY04 wheels. :D

No point arguing different opinions on aesthetics, this was about weight saving. And saving weight on the wheels is double plus good: you reduce the unsprung weight which is good for ride and handling, and you reduce the rotating mass which makes more of a difference than just losing the weight somewhere else.

Which is fine if you are tracking the car, but on something pretty standard and road use I don't see much point.

All or nothing for me.

So if you are planning future stuff then yes, but if not then dont expect any noticable difference I think.

And if there's no point then you might as well have a nicer looking wheel :stick:

:D

The wheel weight reduction must be (at least partially) negated by the extra mass of tyre, surely? That would make it even less worth swapping.

Except lower profile tyres are heavier. I thought I was right.

No you are missing my point :)

I agree on paper, but in this case, it isnt a race car.

If its part of a grand scheme of other stuff then go for it.

Ride quality and road noise would be a valid issue in this case.

I stand corrected! Less is more, evidently!
