I bought some Apline SAS170as, direct replacement and even with the standard head unit and tweeters they sound far sharper and crisper, I can also whack them up to 28-30 without distortion even with the standard HU

Good choice, I installed one in May 2004 as I did not want to change the stock HU.

Funnily enough I read your write up this morning. It was your original posting which kept me coming back to the Dension!. The final decision was made when I realised they had dropped the price

well - picked the parcel up at 3.30 and by 4.30 I had IPOD music in the car

Yes, the IPOD is currently sat on the passengers seat - I still have some work to do!

But what a super piece of KIT
