Default K&N FIPK install

Will be finishing off the install of my new FIPK tomorrow afternoon. The instructions mention nothing of it but I have a little voice in my head saying I should reset the ECU? Is this needed or are the voices playing tricks on me again? I will be disconnecting the battery negative terminal before installing - is this in effect an ECU reset?

If it's going to be off for half an hour or so - yes.

Please let me know how the sound compares to OEM airbox/lid off, I had a HKS RSK on my first S, which was night and day compared to the lid off airbox setup.

The battery disconnection for the installs will reset the ECU from what I read before doing mine. What I found when I first fired mine up post installs was the idle was dropping to about 800rpm and sounded it was going to stall, but after a short drive and a second start it sad back to normal, so I assume that's it recalibrating.

3 Cooling fan cycles whilst idle resets it - if you're going to fit the K&N etc etc you might want to clean out the throtte body and IACV and do a complete job.

It's best to let it sit for a while and learn the idle, but it figures itself out after a while.

It's not a mod where you need to disconnect the battery / ecu reset, but doesn't hurt.

Brilliant thanks everyone, will dissconnect terminal for at least half hour.

Tangovtec - it sounds amazing, much much much better tone than rough lid off vacuum sound + no heat soak! Search for a thread by DanWebster I think it was, best sound capture so far.

You can hear it in some of my video.

Still think it's better than my AEM for noise!
