Default Knock knock

I have a knocking noise coming from the rear of the car and its driving me mad. It sounds like loose shock absorber bushes but I have checked them and they are tight, it is not all the time usually when driving over deep rutted roads and the weight is off the back end. I don't think its exhaust as it is not a metal on metal noise. Any suggestions???
In my quest to find it i discovered that putting elastic bands on the soft top roof catches when the HT is fitted gets rid of that annoying rattle they make, you probably know this but thought I would mention it.

Not to cause you to but Pink Lady's car sounded like that and it turned out to be a spacer left in one of the shocks.... mind you, the noise was not reserved solely for deeply rutted roads...

Cheers for the ideas, I know its not the spare as I had to remove it to check the top shock bushing. I will have another look this weekend

I know this is an old thread, but found it under the search facility!

I have exactly the same problem. I've posted this a couple of times now, but to no avail. I've checked all the obvious things, spare wheel etc)

I took the car to TGM and they checked the suspension and said everything was fine. I replaced the drop links, and still the noise continues. It's only really happens over deep rutted roads, but it's driving me mad now, trying to find out what it is!??!

ARB bushes?

They tend to make knocking noises only when travelling over un-even ground.

I had the same problem and it turned out to one of the rear shocks itself.

Try pushing down on your boot on each side and see if the shocks are both as stiff as each other (on each Side).

The side with the damaged shock was a lot easier to push down on.

Might be worth a try?
