Default Knock Sensor :( UPDATE IT WORKED! :)

I have a CEL so i got the code read and apparently it's the knock sensor. Is there any particular reason the sensor would be faulty? Or is it a common thing to happen on the s2k? Cheers all!

Common problem after a clutch or gearbox change...especially when whoever did the work was hamfisted or didn't read up on the procedure correctly.

Agreed I changed my clutch last week and took a lot of care not to damage it as it will be a real pain to change it as well as pricey, sorry!!

Ah, that would make sense as the owner before me had the clutch changed, as he was a trader it would definately have been a cheap ''mate'' job. Right i'm off to find a knock sensor for sale

Hi all, been a while since I made this thread, haven't drove the car in what must be a month or so now due to weather. In this time I've been thinking about the clutch replacement issue being the fault for the knock sensor code, then I realised, the clutch was replaced before I bought the car, and I got it last July! Surely that would rule out being damaged at the time of the clutch change?

Any other reasons why my cel would come on and throw the knock sensor code? I was on the way home from work going at a "fair speed" down the motorway, it came on as I was slowing down.

Could be a broken wire.

The damage to the knock sensor during a clutch change is physical damage, eg you can just look at it and see if the plastic cover has been cracked or broken off completely during the clutch work. If the casing is okay then your looking for something else, broken wire or connection etc as Ron says.

What would be the fix if it was the wire? Is it a case of cutting into the loom? Ill check out the sensor at the weekend

Mine went intermittent, randomly throwing the code.

Had a new sensor fitted and all OK now.

The old one had gone brittle at the green connector and had cracked where it meets the body, making for a poor electrical connection.
The sensor connector plastic just fell to bits as it was removed.

Mine's an 82K mile facelift, with no clutch change that I'm aware off.

It can sometimes be possible to re-glue the green plastic plug part to the metal base if they have come apart, which they often do.

You'll need a deep socket for re-fitting though, as the short ones dont have the reach over the plug part.
